I think Hol must be the most anti motorbikes person on this thread. Why people have such an issue with bikes is beyond me and I can only put it down to jealousy ![Suspicious](images/smilies/Suspicious.gif)
For those who think its clever to block bikers or to deliberately make it difficult for them to over take you will do it to the wrong person one day.
I see it every day filtering in London, loss of wingmirror, dents in doors, scrapes down your paint work and thats just the minor things. Is that really worth your bad attitude to bikers when if you had just kept to the middle of your lane the bike would have been and gone and you'd be no worse off?
The funniest one was when a lorry driver started on me at a petrol station for going to a pump that was free but he couldn't get too. He physically tried to pull me off my bike so he ended up dragged across the forecourt and pinned against the wall by his throat, made to feel very small and embarrassed and the police called. He decided to run away before they turned up
Don't start on a biker unless you are prepared to face upto them when they take offence at your bad attitude towards them, and I guarantee you their bad attitude willcome back at ten fold as we don't like having our lives played with by arrogant w@nkers deliberately swerving at us.
Any vehicle that deliberately makes room for me gets a nod/thumbs up etc for being considerate. Basically we will treat drivers as they treat us.

Atleast if Car drivers had to do a CBT they would have some understanding of what is Legal. Filtering is legal, as has been shown. The Highway code clearly states :
71: Manoeuvring. You should be aware of what is behind and to the sides before manoeuvring. Look behind you; use mirrors if they are fitted. When overtaking traffic queues look out for pedestrians crossing between vehicles and vehicles emerging from junctions.
So, you can 'Overtake Traffic Queues'. If you do so when it is no overtaking, or cross double white lines etc then you are an idiot. But basically it is LEGAL.
Bikes do mistime hitting the front of queues sometimes - I always try and hold back if there is any doubt coz as a car driver it is irritating when bikes arrive as you are pulling away. But Cars in London never stop at the white line - they are always way further forward. Bikes then end up struggling to get to the front and gather around the first or second cars - this is worse.
In london I find cars regularly block me and often get stroppy with my perfectly safe filtering. I have no sympathy for Bikers who filter too fast or weave too much.
Finally those stupid adverts on TV are ridiculous. The Car is made out to be invisible to the biker ??? Well that suggests the biker isnt looking, as any car turning right in front of him (indicating too) would be clearly visible and avoidable. I would happily defend the car driver in such a case - even as a Biker.

I had a similar incident at a petrol station when a complete idiot tried to move my bike out of the way so he could start filling his car - but managed to drop my bike - trouble was he didnt expect me to come after him with helmet and carbon reinforced gloves - scared the living **** out of him.

"Jealousy" Don't make me laugh.... Why on earth would anyone be jealous of a biker??? Just more proof that bikers think they are superiour, to come up with that an excuse like that.

Yep I lost it with this bloke as I had the petrol cap open and a fuel pump in my hand and he was trying to pull me and the bike over so I felt I was justified at going psycho on the tw@t. Jumped up jack the lad type realised he wasn't quite jack the lad he thought he was
Why do people think bikers will not react to such treatment, to me its like waving a red rag at a bull.

You are a bit dim arn't you really, if you don't know what the jealousy is referring to. Let me explain to your one lonely brain cell so it can ponder on something for a few seconds - the jealousy is about being able to go to the front of the queue, not having to wait and being able to get past slow moving vehicles and not being inconvenienced by them, something that many car drivers would like to be able to remove from their journeys.

One thing is for sure if I get knocked off bike at a speed akin to going over the handlebars at high velocity. I will be aiming straight for the driver of the car and decapitate him/her in the process. Well not sitting in traffic queues is one reason for being jealous. Cheaper Road Tax. More friendly to environment, hence no need for MOT emission check on bike. Better fuel economy meets high Performance. Shall I continue ?

But point taken couriers do take chances just like most idiot white van drivers, sales reps etc on the roads. Maybe that should be a new thread on Motorcycle Couriers progressing in traffic to meet deadlines
![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Why do couriers take more chances than RUBs or Commuters or BABs? I think that is not the case. Sure there are people who rush about but they are not professional couriers & won't be around for very long. You will find that pro couriers drive in a steady and calm way because they know the roads, know what other roadusers can do & finally they spend all day, every day on the road, so know what they are doing - nothing to prove.
I would say its the groups listed above that take more chances, more risks and are basically more dangerous out there, both to themselves and other road users.
Another little "myth" to dispel whilst I am at it. Courier life expectancy is low. Rubbish. Our current fleet consists mainly of professional couriers who have all been doing it a minimum of 10 years. We had one chap with 26 years experience and 20 is not uncommon.
Don't tell me that these guys n gals get to have such experience by taking chances?
We track our couriers via GPS at all times, so we see what speeds they are doing & very rarely do they vastly exceed the speed limit. Obviously we can't see them weaving in/out traffic but that is one indicator of behaviour on the road. With our vans, they are not allowed to speed & that is enforced (isn't it Gossy?
![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)
Sure I daresay our couriers move progressively, but there's a huge difference between progressive & aggressive & it can be done entirely within the law.

B2Zero, I have read your posts on the bikers forum before, and I can only assume there are no mirrors in your house.
When it comes to being a 'ranting spokesperson', you take that crown for bikers, better than I could ever do against them. I loose count of all the posts I see from you where you 'nearly/almost/didnt quite-but was going to' have a go at someone.![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)
Personally, I just say what everyone else is too polite to say. You just don't want to listen.
Moray, lets get one thing straight, filtering in congestion and slow traffic is not the same thing as filtering at speed. - pay more attention next time.
BTW. My eldest Sons Godfather is a sports Biker, He and I have these 'discussions' all the time. But he is not scared, or bigheaded enough not to admit that he has a bike BECAUSE he can get away with doing the things that annoy other drivers. He even admits to doing them deliberately.
At least he's brave enough to admit it.

This will typically see your maximum filtering speed set at 40mph. Although in some situations this can be increased a little, while in others this absolutely needs to be lower.
Where is it Illegal to Filter?
As with any manoeuvre, you must not cause danger or force other vehicles to alter course or speed. Typically its not a matter of where, but when. There are a few situations where it would be illegal to filter. Two that spring to mind is passing queuing traffic in a no overtaking zone (e.g. solid white lines or after a no overtaking sign) or on the approach to a crossing, with zig-zags.

lol @ Hol, really? Funny, I don't seem to have any issue taking up my thoughts with someone who has just deliberately cut me up or done something to endanger me while on my bike. Something that I have to do almost daily unfortunately with commuting to London and back every day with the amount of tw@ts on the road. Thankfully though there are more car drivers who will make room than there are selfish w@nkers who will deliberately block.
Oh and
you like to read a forum about bikes when you are obviously so anti bike? Why? Is it some strange fixation of hatred towards bikes that draws you to reading the bike forum? Most people avoid things they don't like but you seem attracted to bike conversation. Perhaps deep down inside you are a wannabe biker!
Oh and
B2Zero, I have read your posts on the bikers forum before

You get idiots on/in both bikes and cars, though the greater percentage of accidents for single vehicle incidents v ammount of vehicle type on the road is considerably greater if your a biker, and not all is down to the fact its a diesel spillage (most aint), thus the reason we have so many holes in our dry stone walls around here.

In general motorbikers seem to think that the only thing that can hurt them is kryptonite judging by the way they conduct themselves on the road.
I have taken to being the sportsbikes enemy by playing their own game with them. Any bike that comes zipping up behind me and proceeds to sit 6 inches off my bumper waiting for an overtake opportunity will find that by the time they've caught up the next car, I will sit 6 inches of their back wheel... They dont seem to like being treated as they treat others.![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)
As for fitering - well on motorways thats knows as undertaking - using the white lines that divide the lanes up as a path
I shouldnt have to look out for you - you simply shouldnt be doing it...
What makes me cross is that your irresponsible (even/especially if not techinically legal) actions could lead to me killing you - and while I'd feel little remorse if your using country lanes as a racetrack or "speed filtering"... I could end up in prison being someones bitch
no wonder car drivers get wound up...

PS Im sure you two are whiter than white and would never undertake anything - if this is the case apologies for anything above that you take offence to. Thing is - if you do play these games on your bikes, accept the risks and the mixed reactions from motorists...

I only ask because your posts make you sound as though you are extremely immature (just passed your test perhaps and have something to prove?), or are just plain stupid...which is it? Your witty comments re mad max after admitting to your 'sport bike game' are laughable. As are your two wrongs make a right, surely that’s what you are attempting to make work by sitting six inches from a bike because "he did it to me first!".

Keep away from the kryptonite ladies and once in a while do a risk assessment of your poxy ar$e manouvering - then if you have families - establish whether they're able to cope with your death, or feeding you through a straw because of your selfish antics...
If you want a part in the next Mad Max movie - get an equity card and stop using white lines that divide lanes as your high risk undertaking race track .
Zzzzzzz
PS Im sure you two are whiter than white and would never undertake anything - if this is the case apologies for anything above that you take offence to. Thing is - if you do play these games on your bikes, accept the risks and the mixed reactions from motorists...

Staggering!
Cars undertake - I see it all the time on my drive/ride to work. Shoot red lights, sit 6 inches of each other bumpers, overtake in dangerous positions, queue jump whilst in traffic, drive aggressively etc, etc ect.
Why do you seem to be suggesting that all the ills of the road are the fault of bikers and that car drivers are are simply victims of the evil biker. Wake up and get over yourself.

It's only in the summer months that these arguments between car drivers and bikers happen and I have to admit that there are a lot of summer bikers who spoil it for the rest of us.
It's the bikers who are caged up in a car all week long and then get on the bike at the weekend and let rip that account for many of the scenarios that people have mentioned.
I was reading some interesting motorcycle accident stats recently and the majority of accidents involving motorcycles happen at the weekend. Thank God for that is all I can say as my bike is safely tucked up in a garage on a Sat & Sun. Riding to work during the week is bad enough when I have the unfortunate task of meeting drivers like abdadz who make my life difficult. All I am interested in doing is getting to work and home again in one piece whilst avoiding traffic jams at the same time. Is that so hard to understand..?

People slating Abdabz, do you think its alright for biker to sit 6 inches off the cars bumper. Dont even start with the I can manouvere if the car brakes, because chances are you cant. I had a biker sat 6 inches off my bumper going round a fast right hand corner, and we were approaching a car. If I had braked as late as I normally would, he would have been into the rear of my car, or in a field. As it was, I didnt, he stood the bike up, and as far as I can tell only just managed not to go into the kerb on the left.
I have no problems with bikes filtering, and generally move to let them past. The only thing that annoys me is when they start riding towards oncoming cars on the wrong side of the road whilst "filtering". If thats OK, next time I want to overtake a car, and the only thing coming the other way is a bike, please pull as far left as possible so I can overtake. We all know 2 cars and a bike fit
