ok lets try this another way
the things that seem most dangerous and annoying to non motorcyclists seems to be
a) bike sat at what appears to be 6 inches from the bumper on your right rear quarter
b) bikes filtering
lets try and explain so we can all play nice
when the bike looks that close its realisticaly around 5-6 foot away if not more-tthe biker will get that close and be able to see over your car and so anticipate what you are going to have to do before you do it(unless its an impromptu brake test-illegal) the only way this can become dangerous is if the car being followed does something dangerous ie stamping on brakes or pulling out without signalling or looking

again in the case of filtering the only danger is once again to the bike rider from bad driving eg no indicators,doors opening in traffic pulling across lanes without indicating etc

so the problem is that some car drivers feel this is dangerous riding and should be banned or stopped by equally dangerous driving- however these activities are only dangerous because of the car driver in the first place

the real trouble is the minority on both sides that cause the others to be tarred with the same brush
i drive a car and a bike in equal ammounts so i see both sides but all things being equal and average etc its easier and less stressful to notice the biker as he arrives in your mirrors drive normally and let them get on with passing ,or have a wave as you let them past by moving 6 inches to the left or call them through
biker gets there safe,you feel less stressed loose no time and the sun will shine all day

It's no more safe for a bike to sit 5' behind a car and rely on anticipation than it is for a car to do the same (being able to see through windscreens, or round bikes). You're relying on
(a) your anticipation
(b) you having at least as fast a reaction as the car driver if something unexpected happens
(c) you and the car driver interpreting whatever you see ahead in the same way
(d) not having something obscured from your vision by the thing between you and where you will be in 0.1 seconds time.
Want to bet your life on all those happening? I wouldn't.

It's also completely uneccesary: unless you're about to overtake, what is the benefit of sitting 5' behind rather than 40' behind?

Per comments earlier, I'm quite happy for bikes to filter in traffic jams (and I don't even care about bikers illegally passing between lanes of moving traffic at speed - if done carefully). I do have a problem with needless tailgating or other forms of dangerous driving, whether it's from a bike, car or van.

No, not filtering - appearing from nowhere at 30MPH+ relative speed on the inside lane where you can not be seen.

Reason? YOU CAN NOT BE SEEN yet the car driver knows that if there is an accident, he will get the blame so he feels obliged to look out for you and the only way he can look out for you is to compromise his own driving.

Drive directly behind me or on my rear right quarter - I will see you and I will move over when I get the chance. Sit behind me with full beam I will not look at the lights but move my mirrors so you are not dazzling me - hey guess what YOU CAN NOT BE SEEN.

Granted there are some complete idiots on the road but the generalsiation on this thread is ridiculous - so, because I'm not a biker, don't want to be and have no need or intention of taking CBT, that makes me a bad driver? What absolute rubbish.

I just say that 'I don't think I like' Bikers doing a couple of inconsiderate manouvres and before you know it, I am accused of some ficticous report whereby I apparently go out of my way to mow bikers down.

sorry should have specified that this behaviour is only acceptable when looking to overtake ideally on a wide 2 lane road with oncoming traffic-as long as there is enough room between the car and the white line so the bike is about 2 feet to the right of the car and 6-12 feet behind
bikes acellerate so fast that a 40 foot run from 60 would see you passing at over a ton -plus you have less safe time on the wrong side of the road because youve waisted a second or so closing the gap

Just wondering, because I see it all the time - Biker pulls out over solid line AND back in over solid line.

not directly accused you AFAIK of knocking off bikers but if you read the threads a few people have hinted at it
realistically untill youve ridden bikes you can only make assumptions and not understand the issues involved-perhaps you and B2Z should meet up for a pillion run-you may find it opens your eyes a touch

No patience to wait is the key, ive seen plenty do it also and over chevrons as well. Thats where all the dirt accumulates e.g. shredded truck tyres etc. Risk having puncture or coming off.
