Rich,
That a nice way of saying I'm an old bugger? lol
I remember when it was all just fields lol
Bring back the ability for teachers to physcially punish children if they are unruly. Allow parents to smack children if they are unrully. Ban Burberry

The fact is though, if some one else caught your kids doing somthing they shouldn't and gave them a belt most of you would be up in arms and straight round to the police. The break down of cummunities is as much due to the attitudes of people today not knowing their neighbours etc, as it is to the softy left wing ****e Bliars lot spread.

I recall getting a clip round the ear from a chap two streets away when I was a nipper and up to no good. Certainly taught me to behave. When I wailed to mum and dad about they said it served me right and gave me a smack for being up to no good as well. Double reinforcement that what I had been doing was "bad"
I don't have a problem with someone giving a kid of mine a clip round the ear, or forcibly dragging them back to the house, whereupon I could give them a smack. Of course if they smacked or beat them, yes, of course I'd have a problem with that, but a clip round the ear? Well, never did me any harm.
I know I don't have kids presently, but I know how they will be brought up, and they will be smacked regardless of any law in place that says I cannot. My kids will be taught right from wrong in the same manner as I was taught it by my parents and no-one will tell me otherwise. I certainly shall not let some government or pressure group tell me how I should raise my kids.

Put them and their parents through what the five year old suffered see how they like it...scum. My son is five years old and if that was done to him I don't know what I would do to those involved. Saying that where where the 5 year olds parents?!!!

Manda and I are raising our six-year old with a combination of strictish observance of manners, easygoing personal interaction with ourselves and an intensely loving family atmosphere.
We get comments all the time from people who are amazed at how well-behaved he is. I did smack him occasionally when he was younger, but I hardly have to raise my voice, now.
Lots of kids are dragged up.

I'm sorry but it would all be too little too late, today's chavs are being raised by yesterday's scallys.
We were taught to respect our elders by giving them our bus seat etc can't remember when I last saw anyone under 25 do that, plus if caught doing something we knew we'd get punished (to be honest we learnt to try not & get caught)today's kids just don't care!
I wish it was as easy as pointing the finger of blame, we could then maybe get it sorted.
I certainly know I don't have all (or even) any of the answers, but I can at times like this understand the hang'em attitude some people take
Lets face it who wouldn't if this was your kid/nephew/cousin/neighbour's child etc
My thoughts are with the child & family, hoping they can get through this as mentally unscathed as possible
