EddScott .. does not look chav to me ... it's quite tasteful.

Personally I'd get rid of the Prodrive sticker on the front lip and the sticker in the back window but hey everybody has their own style. Now if you had lots of lovely graphics behind the wheel arch and lexux lights then

Avalyn.

Most don't like the Prodrive sticker and the window sticker is the scoobynet url. The Prodrive sticker may have to go anyway becuase I've given the splitter a nasty scrape on one side so needs a lick of paint.

Its just that the term "Chav" and scoob tends to be directed to blue Imprezas with gold wheels - like having 17 inches of Ms Dukes' finest (Fnarr Fnarr) plus the stickers.

The good thing about Imprezas falling into the hands of "some" young lads is that it will weed out crappy cars through writing them off or not being able to afford rebuilds etc.. Those of us who are in it for the long haul will come out the other side with a classic. Look at 205GTIs and mint condition Saphire Cossies etc these will hold their value now as true classics of which the classic Impreza will become.

And my daughters middle name is after a racing driver not a POP singer so a little bit less Chav. Although it probably sounds it. (Alesi)

As an amusing aside, my GFs sister spent a week with us a while back and uttered these unforgettable words "I want to be a Chav when I'm older". I said "with the clothes you wear darling, you already are" I almost had to kick her out

I dont know why the anti chav threads thrive here.

Why do people assume that the vast chav ownership aren't members on here too.

I have a 22B which I have owned since I was 22 (bought myself!). It is of course blue with gold wheels and looks totally standard. There is no doubt in my mind that most on here would thnk it doesn't look like a chavs car. But thats because most on here are enthusiasts.

To the non subaru fan, it is very much a chavs car and there is nothing I can do about that.

Think the car has many reputations depending who you talk to. The old shape is more affordable, but dont kid yourselfs here - there plenty of 'chav' people who have newer shapes and carry out hideous mods to them (probably all paid through our income tax anyway - the lazy bA$tard$!!).

But, as said before - Imprezas are the easiest to get a hold of. In the good old days, XR2's, XR3i's and RS Turbo were all desireable cars - and look what happened to them...... still good cars, just crap owners.

Is the Nokia the 'Chavs' phone??

Well said that man! You just can't win, no matter what you buy!

P.S. your mate bought a girl's car!!!

P.P.S. No chavs in Scoobies around my way; it's invariably a Corsa or Nova.

P.P.P.S Sorry Uncle Pete, but owning a wagon means one/both of the following:

1) You're old.

2) You've got a family......Eurgh! Why?!?!? less money to spend on the Scooby!!

Personally, I'd rather be labled a Chav!

I have to agree with Marky-San..... when I started driving in 87, all my mates were trying as hard as possible to get XR2's and the old style Fiesta Super Sport's. (remember the Super Sport?)

Some of them continued the trend up to a few years ago by moving onto Escort Turbo's, Fiesta Turbo's and Escort Cosworths.

Luckily for 2 of them they saw the light, and are now MY03 and MY04 WRX owners

Me.... I'm a Wagon man.... have a family.... and have no 'bluewater-berry' clothing at all. I do however own a Wax Jacket and have a spanking pair of green 'wellies', so I guess I'm an old fart?

There again my Wagon is lowered has a 4" BB, front splitter, fog light covers, gauges, and a sticker. Maybe I'm a Chav?

Couldnt agree more! I bought an MY96 in March and i would have loved a new one but the pennies wouldnt stretch that far. So why are people who own older Subarus now labelled chavs? I have never worn burberry in my life and i work hard to afford my car. Just think if it wasnt for people like me buying the classics next time anybody wanted to trade in for a newer model or sell privately they wouldnt be able to because there wouldnt be the market for your old ones. just because i cant afford £20+ grand for a car it doesnt make me a chav.

They thrive because they're fookin snobs. Because they are annoyed that their beloved marque is now available to the masses unlike when they first purchased them and were the bee's knees because they were so far and few between.

================================================== ======

If they feel that pissed off, they can always go buy some other marque and stop f ucking off the rest of us who are quite happy for anyone *ANYONE* to own the car of their dreams.

How easy and pathetic it has become to slap a chav label on just about anyone who annoys you - irrespective of how they dress, you do not know them from adam so how dare you assume because they wear certain clothes or choose certain mods, that they are beneath you and other scooby members here.

Many members here actually make me ashamed. The amount of abuse people have to take from you small minded, rude individuals is discraceful. Pull your necks in for once. If you can't say nothin' nice, don't say nothin' at all.

Most of the kids you call chavs are in fact very respectful, til they hear or see YOU being an absolute **** - that is when they seek their revenge and rightly so. What goes around comes around. No wonder kids have no respect for us, it's because we have no respect for them. They are branded and fenced in before they have had the chance to prove themselves. What a sad unforgiving society we have become.

The clothing they are all choosing to wear is called fashion. Remember that when you were kids? We ALL wore the same clothes - it's called peer pressure and something that most grow out of. It makes them feel they belong somewhere and that they fit in.

Subaru owners are not CHAVS no matter what they do to their cars. What a boring ****ing world this would be if we all kept our cars standard huh.

I'm more worried about ***** than I am chavs.

You've totoally missed the point. The fact the Impreza is a chav car has nothing to do with the driver. It's to do with the fact it is loud, brash, ugly, brutish, garish etc etc... all the things we may love it for now in the grand scheme make it 'chav'. That doesn't make it a bad thing.

Actually, in some societies where the barbarous act of female circumcision is practised, they haven't.

I think we need to define our terms people:

What -exactly- is a chav?

NS04

P.S. I seem to remember Porsche suffering a backlash when they relased the boxster: 911 fans cried: "How could you devalue our brand by releasing a Porsche that the common man/woman can afford"

I have stopped using the term chav now, on this site, due to there being multiple meanings for the word

Here are some

1. Young person
2. Person in a group
3. Person who modifies a car
4. Anyone that wears fashionable clothing
5. Anyone who wears a cap
6. Anyone that saves his/her nuts off to buy a slightly older scooby.
7. Anyone who DARE modify the above scooby

The list could go on and on and on, there is no clear explanation of a chav, it is mearly a label for the majority of youngsters.

Which does ring a certain bell with school bully written on it. Remember in school the older kids picking on the younger ones, because they had different hair/clothes or listened to different music.

Couldnt agree with you more! I think people just enjoy using the word "chav". Think its the "in" "fashionable" word at the moment!
A chav to me lives in a caravan and steals everything thats not bolted to the floor! Another word for a pikey?

Im 22 and the otherday I wore my Nike cap which I havent wore for a year, I do feel sorry for some Chavs because eveyone looked down on me when wearing my cap. Went into my local chippy for some tea, and the bloke behind the counter said to me "sure youve got enough money mate" no word of a lie, the cheeky ba5tard. I dont think everyone who wears a cap and tracksuit bottoms are all bad, but driving my scoob back from the chippy everyone thought I must of stolen it, with the dirty looks i got.

Personnally I couldn't give a rat's *** about the possible 'chav' image.

What I am concerned about the impact of a certain 76yr old, smelling of Worthers Originals, driving a scoob..!

Now that is worrying...!!!

i personally think a lot of u are up ur own *****!! when i was 22 i bought a turbo 2000 wagon, i 'molested ' it by tinting the windows and put 18's on it, no stickers mind, i did once or twice drive it with my criminal wooly hat on(thats a brand name not a type of person)
im now a whole 24 and drive a saloon, it came with a dump valve and lexus lights cuz my mate who i bought it off has no idea about styling, but hes no chav, and i like the dump valve, and i still wear that hat!!

at the end of the day, its a ****in subaru, not a ferrari, if they want to drive like ****s let em, doesnt make em a chav, anyone who can afford em deserves the respect that everyone else gets, unless they do somethin to supset you,

so really for christs sake, grow up

Well Porkerboy.....Scooby may be a Chav-mobile which just happens to be the latest buzz word people have latched on to and associated with all kinds of stuff.

At least we are currently in vogue though

Last time I looked a Porker was a Yuppy-mobile and nobody has been interested in those since circa 1989

....you loser
