the luskiest escape i remember wasnt for me it was for a fox.

driving down a country road at about 2 am with not another car in site i notice two foxes in the road. Ones a clever dick and ran back into the field. The other one should have received a darwin award because he ran down the road.

After screeching of brakes i could see the poor thing getting closer and closer and closer, till finally he dissappeared from view under my bonnet at almost the same time the car finally stopped. Low and behold a very nervous fox could be seen running away fromm my car. I didnt hit it, i either just stopped in time, or he ducked down and went underneath the car.

Either way a lucky lucky fox

Overtaking a lorry going down Beacon hill on the A303 (amesbury). Tractor and trailer comes out from field to cross the dual carriageway. Tractor gets into central reservation bit and waits to complete the crossing. His trailer however is blocking the outside lane which im halfway past the lorry on......Jump on brakes, pray, kiss **** goodbye, might have said a rude word or two, tractor starts moving again and I squeeze through the gap. Time to pop home for clean trousers

one of the best stupid "turn your brain back on" moments was when i was driving down a country lane following a bus, the bus started to indicate left:

NOTE to be made i was in "london" mode, so when i bus indicates you overtake instantly.

i looked, it was clear, so i overtook

the road started to get narrow and low and behold it dawnd on me. The bus was swinging out first.

I quick runmble onto the verge and i was past.

it was very narrow :P

Cool

Driving along a narrow country lane with lots of twisties (road back from Malham Cove, for those that know it), at night, no moon or street lights. Got to a particularly tight section, with a nasty set of bends (left, right, left), hit a pothole on the way in and the lights on my Pug 306 died.

I can still remember how much fun it was driving the bends from memory, rather than being able to see anything ;-)

Hanging upside down from a seat belt with a broken arm and a broken collar bone having been hit by a drunk driver in Hounslow waiting to be cut out by the fire brigade with the smell of oil, petrol and something burning in the air.

My 1 and only accident in 22 years of driving caused by a thoughtless ***** who decided to drive 7 times over the legal limit.

I had something similar. 13/12/1996 and I am a delivery driver. Going across a box junction and a car turns into the filter to come across us. I have right of way and I kep going thinking he would stop.
He didnt.
He only tapped me, but my velocity pushes me into a pub wall, sideways at 30mph, I then bounce off and take out a set of traffic lights as well.
I was concussed for a week, but the other guy was pissed up so as it was december the police arrived and breathalised everybody. I passed, he failed.
Up until that point the police were thinking "Boy racer, going too fast, his fault" it was after he failed that they started being a lot nicer to me

Many years ago, in a company pool Peugeot 309 approaching a little overbridge near Cholsey at about 45MPH - only I had forgotten it was a very humpy humpbank bridge. Car must have jumped about 6 foot above the road on the other side and all I could see was the tops of the hedge and surrounding countryside. For the next 1-2 seconds I just hoped for the best, kept the wheels straight and wondererd if I would re-hit the road. I did - with a big thud - good job it was that one and not the Maestro - and I was so relieved I was whooping all the way to Didcot. I reckon it would have been a cracker if anyone was watching - just like those big ones on WRC. But I'm not trying that again - not on a public road anyway.

I had a two year old Mondeo as a company car and on the way home from 5-aside footy in the rain I accidentally put the front right wheel up on the grass central reservation of a dual carrageway doing 80mph.

I lost control and slewed across the central reservation, across the other two lanes of traffic and hit the kerbs sideways, rolling the car through a wooden fence a into a field. The car turned over 3 times, including 1 end-over-end (according to the witnesses!) before coming to rest.

The errie things was the "calm before the storm" moment when I first went upside down. It was like a snapshot photo of all my tapes and sunglasses, etc, frozen in mid-air and then all hell broke loose and the windows shattered.

Worst of all, the airbags didn't even go off - that's Ford safety for you!!!

Once went for an overtake on a GSXR 750 I had, in a mental effort to be first into "Devil`s Bridge" (popular bikers meet, North Yorks).

Before I pulled out, I really did think that the overtake was on, as it looked all clear in front, BUT......................I obviously hadn`t looked hard enough, and didn`t see the Landrover on the other side of the bend.

God knows how, but I just dropped the left shoulder and knee, and the Gixer, (God bless its talent, far greater than mine ever was) just turned and went round the front of the Landrover. I swear to this day, I could see the whites of the driver`s eyes.

Anyway........I was first into the `bridge, and all the lads were taking the p*ss about how I should be dead etc, and I tried to laugh it off (big-time Charlie syndrome), but I actually felt physically sick with shock for about 10 minutes.

Slowed me down on the way home, I can tell you...............

I can see why so many racers use vans / pickups for towing...

Did you at any point think about taking the car off the trailer and driving it up seperately?

Or am I still missing the point?
