315bhp out of the box, A-DCCD, waterspray (auto and manual) quickest production impreza and considerably more tunable than a classic sti 
(360bhp aint a problem on the original turbo plus upto 400lbs of torque, 6 speed gearbox etc etc etc)

Tony, not everybody can splash 25/30 grand out on a new scooby and as you say you've got to start somewhere so I don't think anybody on here with a classic needs you saying your cars better than theirs, sounds like stuff you ear in the playground!

Actually Kev i believe they were saying that the classic is better than the new age, i said ive owned both and its not, simple, its me putting my fight up about how good the new age actually is, from owners who actually havnt owned one

The V6 mondeo v Subaru Impreza turbo test was done by autocar i believe, it put the Impreza in second place, since then they carried out several changes in the face lifts to improve the impreza, but thats how it turned out, yup Impreza turbo beaten by Mondeo.....
Oh and you can pick up a mondeo for 500 quid
though the steering is very light until you get use to it

Having bought my first Subaru, a MY02 STi with ppp new in May 02 and running it happily for 24k miles, I decided to sell it as the residuals were slipping fast.
After trying all sorts of different cars I found it hard to decide what came next, however in my case it was a 22B which after seeing one in the flesh and a thrilling test drive I just had to own. Its a beast with no comprimise.
I must admit to enjoying all of the different models from that I have been lucky enough to try - The P1, a new Spec C to the Type 25 and back to the lightwieght RA Sti from 1999, however I am confident that I have made the right choice.
It seems to me that the older cars have different dynamics from being lighter and that bit lower which I think makes them more agile than the newer ones.
I hope one day for a true replacement for my 22B which, until that time comes I'll stick with but things do not look good for this, especially when looks at this latest one - that or a 22B what do you think ?

The same sentiments as HF02 really.
I'll be keeping my Type R until Subaru sort out a replacement 2 door. I tried an '03 JDM STi and wasnt keen on the overall experience. You need to drive a spec c to understand the experience and tbh, none of the classics were as good in the handling department, though John Felstead did say to me that his old STi type RA V-ltd was probably more agile on the slow stuff, on the ring the c would have just left it.

I hear what you're saying Tony, and you're right, I didnt get to drive it, so I suppose that does have a bearing on it, but I was comparing it from a passenger's perspective. Plus mine isnt on standard suspension or arb's, upper and lower strut braces so the handling is pretty damn good (IMO obviously )
I cant remember what the guy was called, it was when I went to look at a Type RA with ScoobyTowers. The guy that was selling had a Spec C and offered to take me out in it (whilst Towers was poking around the RA, which he didnt end up getting. Shame really cos it was pretty nice) to compare.

Yeah, the one I went out in might not have had panel a filter upgrade
And I still prefer Gary's new car (and mine obviously) to look at over any newage

The classic is still the one
I tend to hang ariund with a few car nuts (2 own classics), and we all agree the classic is the definative Scooby and still looks good, my MY93 is the only car i have ever owned for more than 8 months with out wanting a change (15 months now) and when i look at it or walk back to it in a carpark i still get that, f-ck i love my car feeling, it still looks good and not dated, proof is in the fact that subaru's short lived bug eye thing (Yuk) was replaced by a car hat was similar in looks to the classic and should have been the original replacement for the classic. Infact the only thing i want to change about my car is the color (to blue of course). Oh and the fuel economey

I own an 02 WRX, which i happen to like very much. I do prefer the new shape to the classic, but could not afford the newer shape. However i do respect the fact that the classic is a great car and would not sl@g it down.
So come on guys the bug eye might not be to your taste, so what, just remember that some people are quite proud of their "yuk" bug eyes. So have a bit of respect, as i would have for you.

Hi i have a 98 classic with the full Prodrive wrsport upgrade ( Heard it cost a wopping 30K not sure though). Any ideas on if that will ever fetch a good price in years to come. I am the second owner. Have been uprating parts but still have stuff i took off it incase returning it to standard would get me a better price if i sell it. Would trying to keep any uprated parts Prodrive help with resale value. Planning to keep car for a while yet, looking into getting another daily car to preserve my Scooby a bit better(just about finished paying for it now)

There was a big jump in Spec C performance with the MY05 version, mainly in the configuration of the hubs, dampers, wider wheels/tyres, helical front LSD and Yaw sensor on the DCCD-A which has given the car the edge in terms of consistent performance and ease of reaching that performance, but there isnt such a huge improvement over the equivilent classic (STi5 Type RA) in terms of laptimes IMHO. A UK turbo Classic would be slower of course, but you have to be careful what you are comparing like for like with.

Hmmm....so there're n plans to bring the classic back? As said, there was some prototyping going on at prodrive (?) on classic with rumour it was set to make a return!
