Micky, do you reckon this stuff got used neat on my wheels at a hand wash garage somewhere and would account for why my OZ centre caps are now white and bubbly instead of chromed?

you see, at the carwash i run, in the past people used to use this stuff
although it was not allowed, they still used it, im told other sites still use it

the red brickwork on my prewash pad is fecked and has been attacked by previous useage

i have seen my own centre caps corrode by over use on my old vauxhall rims
one of my lads worked at another site, they used this stuff on request

one bloke with a merc used to insist that it was used every time, the lad explained that regular use was a bad idea, this bloke thinking he knew best demanded that he use the strong stuff

after a few months use (once/twice/week ish) the lad came to blast his wheels and sum paint came off, it had blisterd and corroded the alloy underneath

so the bloke complains? but it was explained enough in the past that it is bad if used regularlly

the stuff we use on the car wash does not harm wheels, with regular use wheels stay clean, it will not shift the baked on tarnish style stuff, but it does not harm wheels
we do get the odd person still asking for the strong stuff, but i always tell them no

if they want the wheels properlly cleaned then book it in for a valet or go elsewhere, you have to think, a handwash struggles to get the cars cleaned in a reasonable time, they will use what ever means to help shift the car along the process, and if that means fecking harsh wheel cleaners and industrial stregnth TFR to clean the paint, they will do it

with 2 members of staff on my wash, and the track speed on fast we can wash one car every 60secs and the wheels will be cleaned and washed before it goes into the wash hall, a handwash would struggle to do one car every 5 mins IMO and it would take more then 2 members of staff

that is the reason more and more people are ditching the handwash`s and comeing back to us, plus the fact that our local (under 1 mile away) handwash competitor has just went under

hand wash on a dead day with fresh buckets/sponges/ equipment is probably a much better idea for yourself if you dont like conveyor washes, but they will still have the harsh chemicals on hand to clean wheels and stuff

Auto Glym Clean Wheels seems to work for me, followed by a good coating of MER Wicked Wheel Wax.

Once they're clean and waxed it's soooooo much easier to keep them that way. As Tiny says

Clean Wheels does de-colour callipers. So watch out !
