Live 8 Tickets on Ebay
#31
Here is the ebay announcment regarding ticket sales
Dear all,
Today you have made it very clear to us that our previous decision to allow the sale of LIVE 8 tickets on eBay.co.uk was not one that the vast majority of you agreed with. As a result of this clear signal from the Community we have decided to prohibit the resale of LIVE 8 tickets on the site.
Although the resale of tickets is not illegal, we think that this is absolutely the right thing to do. We have listened to the views you expressed on the discussion boards and in the many emails you have sent to us. We shall be working over the next few hours to remove all LIVE 8 ticket listings from the site.
Thanks for taking the time to contact us and make your views heard,
Regards,
Doug McCallum
Managing Director, eBay (UK) Ltd.
On behalf of the whole eBay.co.uk team

LOL
Everyone on this forum harps on about "selfish chavs" and "no respect in society" and then advocates making money off the back of a project to make people aware of the debt problem.
I agree that slashing the debt will not work in isolation. What the west needs to do is to encourage trade with these countries, stop dumping cheap subsidised food on the world markets and stop our multinational companies supporting the crocked regimes (gold, diamond and oil companies principally).

Bad organisation if you ask me. Glastonbury tickets are personalised with the purchasers name and address, you need photo ID to get in. If it don't match up then no entry. No ticket reselling on eBay.
Why didn't they implement a similar scheme for Live8?

Have been saying it for years, although the culling is a bit harsh, that money should be spent steralizing people in these countries.
Or at least educating them and providing ample means of contraception. The problem of not enough food would sort itself out within a generation.
I personally think that when you see small children starving to death, covered in flies, the only people to blame are the parents.
I know this view is not p/c, but it remains mine am i am entitled to it.
Sorry if it has offended anyone.

the other side of this is that the people who did live aid 20 years ago made a fortunes worth of self publicity out of it.....same this time round. even geldof (mabey him most of all?) would not be as known as he is today if it wasnt for live aid.

The solution to the ***** on ebay would be if ebay had some sort of registration charge.....optional though and offset against any fees you clock up.
then sellers could opt whether to allow bids from people with no history and no registration.....in that way the idiots who create an ID to bid wouldnt bother.

They must have known that tons of people would realise the value of these tickets and send in numerous texts. They've made their money.
You can't blame ebay, only those who sell the tickets. Much worse are the people who grab all the anti-bullying etc wristbands for FREE by making multiple orders and then making a premium on Ebay - but nothing is done about that.

People were starving africa before Live Aid, they'll still be starving in Africa after Live 8, and 9, and 10, and so on and so on.
It's life, it's cruel, mean and hard, but there you have it. There are reasons why Africa is so poor, and why there are starving people. It might be due to government/warlords/whatever misappropriating funds for weapons and civil wars, it might be due to their being too many people for the local ecology to support. Both/either of these would lead to the country needing financial support from other countries, and at some point, repayment needs to be made.
Again it's sad, but it's life. Why should one country get a "free" ride when others do not? If I'm right, and I might be, I think the UK had to pay back the yanks for their help in WWII. If that's the case then I don't see us concerts for us, to clear our debt.
Ah, but we're not a third world starving nation, with a population that cannot feed itself but can reproduce rather well. Maybe a cull or sterilization programme (or both) might help things out? But that's inhumane in today's world, isn't it. We can't do that, so I guess we'll have to put up with all the moaners like Bob, and all the adverts about "help a starving child".
As you can probably tell, I don't have much sympathy, and I'm probably a cruel and twisted person, but if I *did* care about this thing so much, then I'd sell everything and live as a pauper to try and help them, but alas I'm not a hasbeen rock star, so my plight at trying to help the starving masses would go unheard.

Catweasle would be better holding a Live shut-the-catholic-church-the-****-up concert - They have more to answer to in terms of Africa's problems than the leaders of the rich nations do !
For the Younger viewers this is Bob Geldof (I mean Cat Weasle)

Why didn't they implement a similar scheme for Live8?

err coz they have only had 20 years or so to sort it all out and then decide to organise it all in 6 weeks flat. The guy hasn't got a clue.

2) As I suggested in another thread it is primarily the banks that should be stopped from moving "commission" fees (bribery) paid to government officials' offshore accounts. Not an easy task but the amounts involved are stupendous. All banks do it and Geldof should be asking a million people to boycott the banks rather than wasting their, and everyone else's, time in Edinburgh. Now the G8 guys could do something about this but, of course, they won't.

Yes the problems with Africa are at the political / administration / banking level and until there are some major changes there things will stay as they are.
