They don't have to be a lot quicker, just 1mph more per corner makes a difference. The s2000 will outbrake a standard 4-pot (and 2 obviously) classic with ease, it will turn in at a higher speed (much less prone to understeer - note how far back engine is in bay), it will then hold a steady state turn at least the same speed as a scooby and can be adjusted far easier on the throttle (rwd vs 4wd) and can usually exit faster with a few degrees of step out (rwd vs 4wd).

Crazy as this may sound the best way to feel the difference it to drive them back to back on GT4 on the playstation 2. Now I know its just a game but the game is IMHO quite accurate in the handling characteristics of the cars I've owned and driven just that it amplifies those characteristics a little. When you drive the S2000 you carve your path around the track with surgical precision but in the classic shape scoobys you find yourself trying to get through the corner as best you can to allow you to stamp on the gas and employ an 'aim and shoot' approach. In many respects this is what the cars are like in real life IMHO.

Agreed - I rarely ever had the hood up on my Vitesse 2 litre Mk II. Crank up the heater and revel in the straight six howl!

Have had loads of interest in the car, and have had a number of queries as to whether it's for sale!

Mine's around 200 bhp with a Trent Saab exhaust - the sound is glorious when you nail it with the roof down :-)
