WRX's arent slow!, just people expect to much of them, they read stories of Imprezas chasing 911's etc..and 0-60 in 4Seconds and expect so much of them. You only get that sort of performance standard when you buy a STi Type R, STi's, RA's, Spec c's etc.....not from a standard 220HP Impreza

All imprezas are quick, just some are quicker!

No turbo Subarus are slow!!!!!!!! Just some are quicker than the others.

The MY00s and bugeyes are the fastest though because they come in red mica

the standard wrx is slow, the td04 starts blowing to late and tails off to early on the standard car

get it properly re-mapped once you have the turbo whirring at 1500rpm rather than nearly 4k and blowing till at least 6k the wrx comes alive. and is actually easier to drive fast on normal roads than a larger turboed sti.

i was getting pasted with the standard car by a chums boxster s and anothers lcr, now it is a different matter and i have to slow down to let them catch up.

either that or i have to stop to let the brakes catch up.

pbee, how much, roughly, would it be to have my standard MY05 WRX re-mapped (other than PPP). I have asked this on a dedicated thread, but nobody seems to be answering. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Usually £650 + VAT - that group buy is £550 + VAT

Got mine done on a group buy last year for £500 + VAT

You would want a better air filter and at least a partial de-cat before getting it done to get the most out of it. That cost needs to be taken into account.

I got my 02 JDM WRX (already 247 BHP) done and was very happy - you would probably see an even bigger jump in performance.

Well worth it. Not so much for the added peak BHP but for the extra torque right accross the range.

That's the initial cost which includes the ECUTEK licence which I think is £300 or £350.

Once you have that then any future map changes is just the cost of the mappers time.

Sounds good, and far cheaper than PPP, although I believe you do get a new back-box with PPP.

A 'SLOW' car is 1.1 seicento, not a 220Hp impreza!

I bought my Bugeye WRX in 2002 and thought it was the bee's knees and was an absolute rocket. Six months later I thought the performance was "average" so I modded it to around 300bhp and thought "that's more like it". A year later I thought it wasn't fast enough. Luckily I destroyed my transmission so I had to get a stonger one. Then I thought, "While I'm at it I may as well strengthen some other areas." and then I got totally carried away.....

I am now running about 460/470bhp and it's definately fast enough.

(Incidentally, it's also my daily driver, extremely reliable (helped by the fact it's not a two litre anymore - I had it bored out to 2.3), and drives as easily as the day I bought it.)
