Was going to start a thread with this e-mail I received but see Pete's beat me to it. Certainly is a good idea.

Regardless, the ICE thing is a good idea.

It's not a good idea at all. Security on your phone is the most important thing. Your phone is far more likely to be nicked and if you don't have it locked then you're letting yourself in for it. I can see all the crackheads now calling up your nominated 'ICE' mate for a laugh, telling them your dead.
If you're that worried about being identified keep ID with you.
I also protest to this 07/07 label. This is the UK, not the USA.

GSM1 is correct.
I have my Nokia 9500 set to auto lock after a short period of time, this is a separate PIN to that on the SIM and it's very hard to get around.
How about I stick a piece of paper to the battery with my ICE details on?

Well, I have news for you .......... some people stare at a CockLink instead of driving!!
Some people disconnect the Crank-Sensor after an Oil Change!!
Scoobynetters have been known to worry daily about their MAF gradually drifting out of spec. and destoying their engines!!
I have even heard about re-mapping because a different garages fuel has been used!!
Alledgedly, and I cannot confirm this sad activity as its so amazingly ****, some Scooby owners get their car connected to a Laptop and some geek sits beside them with 2 baked bean Dick-Cans acting as headphones stuck to their ears ..................
![EEK!](images/smilies/eek.gif)
And you think that an ICE Number in your phone is paranoid??
![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)
Think again!! This is ScoobyNet FFS - the paranoid mecca of the internet!!

Thought ICE stood for "In - Car Entertainment"..........................
Seriously though, I work in the emergency services, and it is a VERY good idea. It does make a big difference to relatives, if they can get to speak to you before you pass-away to pastures-new. Bit morbid I know, but true.

I was looking at making up dogtags the other year for mountain bikers found unconscious on the trail, but it proved to cost prohibitive to make money off and instead just directed people to a site already suppling and engraving them. I do however have a very smart set of Ti Dogtags here for my own use, that i wear all the time i however have still put my ICE details in my phone.

If you save your ICE number to your SIM card then they can recover it even if the phone is PIN locked

(although it's trivial to get a PUK code these days)

Some phones, such as my Nokia 9500 additionally support a phone lock which is independent of he SIM
