I dirve a escort s2 rs (excepts to be eaten alive now for saying ford)...and ive done a few scoobs down the a12.rolling starts only....get eaten from pull away!
by the way my bean tin running 216.9bhp and 222ft/lb and weighs less than 960kg.....
but im thinking about buying a scoob...need four doors and still sumit quite quick and good looking! oh and not 15yrs old!

Came onto a roundabout once with an EVO in the outside lane and he just drove round me. Theres no way my Impreza would have managed it without understeering into the kurb or another car. The EVO just lit a few of its tyres up briefly, hunkered down and just launched off on the dual carriageway. Quite impressive I must say.
Coming back from Japfest a couple of years ago, I was with a newage STI and a P1. We came onto the motorway together and I just wanted to make a comparision to my tek,decat,filter classic. I was quite surprised by how little the newage pulled away from me - it did pass but wasn't the whitewash I expected. The P1 was gone!

Thing is - you have to remember straight line speed doesnt mean that much really, the benefit of the Impreza is the 4WD and cornering - most non 4WD cars that could keep up or beat you in a straight line wont keep up on a twistier road.
A lot of these new factory modded hot hatch's have very good power to weight ratios ( stick a 2.0 Turbo in a small, light hatchback and its going to shift ! ), which gives them better acceleration and top end than the Impreza, but 2WD in a small powerful car is going to be much harder to control on wet or twisty roads.
If all you want is straight line speed, get one of the yank muscle cars with a 6l engine - goes like stink in a straight line but cant go round corners
But saying this, a £6K or £7K Impreza that can go head to head with a £25K hot hatch
cant be all bad.

Wasnt in my Scooby, was years and years back, when I had a brand new 205 1.6GTI
Was heading out of london near swiss cottage, car behind had his headlights on, they appeared so low, they almost looked like cats eyes.
Set off as fast as the pug would go..........this car was literally 3feet behind me and I couldnt shake him off over at least 6 sets of lights.....he had a lettered sun strip, which I managed to make out read "turboladden" or something similar....at this point I knew I was in trouble.....
He passed me going past brent cross shopping centre, I was on the rev limiter in 4th, he passed me like I was going backwards, he must have at least been doing 140mph, his car was over a lane wide, then when he backed off it had at least 4ft flames coming out of the what I think was a centre exhaust pipe......
Its still the most manic car I have ever seen on the road, it looked like it had just driven straight from le mans !

I had some trouble with a clio 182 only a few weeks ago...
In my UK turbo (250bhp/240lbft) I was pulling out onto the A52 at borrowash to derby and nailed it...the clio was already in the fast lane and obviously saw the quick pull of. I got alongside flat out accelerating upto 80 and i was nearly alongside - about 2 cars behind with him in the fast lane.
I kept going and assumed I would go past so pulled into the fast lane ready for an overtake.....
3rd............redline..........4th.......redline. .....he was still the same distance in front of me upto 120-130 when I looked down and thought it best to chill out....
My mrs has a 182 but i'm positive it isn't 'that' quick when rolling....it did look ever so slightly fettled although i couldn't place how...
I hear they do turbo / supercharger conversions for them now.....maybe when ours is a bit older and out of warranty...lol

My previous car before the scooby was a 300bhp 330lb/ft Saab 9000. Getting it off the line was nigh on impossible in the dry, throw in a wet road and 306DT's were quicker to 50mph.
In the dry above 60mph it was damn quick in a straight line.

I've just got rid of my astra gsi (mk IV) to get the scoob. In the time I was waiting for the scoob to be sorted, I got a chance to have a pop at a scoob like the one I was buying. I was gutted when I was sat up the other guys ringer (so to speak) all the way up the local dual carriageway, staring to re-consider the purchase. Anyhow, I was glad to see the other guy disappear when we got to the roundabouts at the end, there was no way I was keeping up.
Only time i've ever been glad to lose!
Went ahead and bought the scoob and so far, I've no regrets at all
