You are clearly an idiot, reducing the tax burden isn't going to happen and if it did it wouldn't be used to reduce fuel duty.

Succesive governments have promised to reduce 'waste' as you put it and for the most part all they've done is spent yet more money 'reducing' it.

Meanwhile bleat and moan in the most useless fashion possible like the useless bitches you clearly are.

Why not post a totally pointless thread on it then? Or better yet waste your and a bunch of other fcukwits time and run a petition for "better weather".

Seems to me this petition is a bit like an intelligence test, if you sign it, you failed.

I'm a bit disappointed that some think it's me!!

I might argue my point and use some choice words now and again - but I'm not THAT bad!!

He has a very good set of points though ..... it is a fruitless exercise, the petrol is increasing NOT due to TAX but world conditions!

pete does have a point though emerging nations such as china and india are using more and more oil putting strain on what was an already stretched supply. maybe we should alap a %1000 import tax on those countries slow the ******* down a bit

We understand what your saying. It is the price of oil that's pushing up the price, but because tax on fuel is so high, the increase in oil price make a huge difference. If the government reduced the tax duty percentage, this would reduce the fuel price. We could go round in circles arguing the point, but for those of us who wish to sign a petition, let us, what harm is it?. There's no need for yourself and Pikie to slag us off for that is there?

Incorrect. Fuel duty is fixed.

It is NOT a percentage of the price you pay at the pump. The increase in pump prices is PURELY down to the increase in the cost of crude....the duty does not increase (aside from the tiny bit of extra VAT on the total price).

For ULS unleaded, the fuel duty is 47p/litre. For normal unleaded, it is 50p/litre. That duty does not increase/decrease with the movement of the price that Esso/BP/Shell are charging you.

Yes, sorry, that's what I meant. The duty is too high though, if you compare it to say, the USA, or mainland Europe. The government should reduce this when the cost of oil is so high. It's not just drivers driving that suffer, it effect loads more. The amount of food someone can buy for there family, the household biils etc. It's easy for certain people to say don't drive (government) but if you live outside a city, public transport is crap, and that's the main problem. I'd love to use public transport when out for a night, but if I want to go outside of Darlington, I'm screwed, and I'm not paying £40 taxi, just to get home.

Too high? Based on what? Your simplistic version of taxation?

You have to look at the overall taxation. Do you get free healthcare etc. Is there road tolls. Even outwith taxation, are things better? Move to the USA, and you'll be lucky to get 20 days holiday per year.....horses for courses I'm afraid. Grass is always greener syndrome....and if not, move

I see. So you're saying that the goverment should be subsidising your "luxury" night out? Interesting.

Why should the goverment have to adjust taxation of other things when oil dips/rises in price? The fuel duty is fixed for a reason.

Would you be blaming the goverment if the price of coffee/coke/PCs/cars/beer etc went up in price? Oil is just a commodity like the rest. If you can't afford it, cut back.
