I had a left top and bottom one removed when I was 23.In the hospital under local anaesthetic.
It took approx 1 hour(felt like 3),and was probably the most horrible ordeal I ever experienced.

Chisels, screwdrivers, pliers, drills etc and a lot of hard work from the dentist (he even had an aprentice holding my head),it was terrible.

went home with a face like desperate dan(swolen jaw and cheek),a split lip, aching neck, and had a very bad time with the pain for the next few days.

I was supposed to go back after two weeks for the next 2 to be removed,,,yeah like ****,that was 6 years ago............

next time (when I pluck up my courage enough)i will go with general anaesthetic...

BTW,the problem they where causing was, there wasnt enough space so the rest of my teeth were being pushed and there was also a small pocket of skin (absus?)that would continuously get infected and giving me super dragon breath(not to mention painful when eating peanuts etc).

Hope your experience is more pleasant...

I had all 4 out about 10 years ago under a general. Two had started to come thought ( top ones ) but the bottom one's had not. One bottom one was at 45 degrees to where it should have been and the other was 90 degrees out !! I was in and out in a day and then had a week off work with a face like a hamster !!! I was okay after about 3 days to venture out.

I had to make sure someone came and picked me up in the evening from the hospital as they wont let you drive.

I had one out on the last working day before Christmas '96 I think it was because it was impacted on the one next to it. I can't remember the pulling much except that he broke it in half and had to go in twice. Didn't have much of a Christmas dinner though I can tell you.

Had all 4 taken out in 1 go under a general anaesthetic. 3 came out no problems, 1 however was a pig. A few stiches and a week on pain killers, no problem. The only downside is I lost fine feeling in the right hand side of my tongue for 6 months cos the tooth that refused to budge ended up interfeering with the siatic nerve on its way out. I didn't even look like a hamster which can happen. All back to normal now.
