I'm not convinced he was challenged "properly". Time will tell but even if you were on and expired visa you'd have to be pretty stupid to try and outrun an armed policeman onto a tube train the day after 4 suicide bombers had failed to explode the Network.

I reckon the Enquiry could throw up some disturbing news on this one .

Have read a little on this, and the latest seems to be that he was here on a student visa, and this visa had expired, so he was here illegally, and thus it's not too suprising he ran for it when approached by the police. I would have assumed they would have identified who they were, especially before opening fire.

Running from a copper at any time is not a smart move, you can't outrun a radio signal, so at some point you may well be caught.

He chose to run, and this resulted in him being shot. The police assumed he was a possible suspect, that he may be carrying a bomb, and he refused to stop when asked to do so.

I've been to a fair few foreign countries and heard the police yell at people to stop, and thus I think any fact about him not speaking or understanding english is a little over the top. He was here on a student visa, so one would like to think, as studying in our country, he'd be able to understand, if not use english, even at a basic level.

It was a tough call for the police, but one I feel that had to be made.
They were not 100 percent sure he was not a suicide bomber. would you, in the police officers position, take the risk that the chap running from you could be about to kill a fair few people if you did not stop and kill him. Why not just stop him? well, he could detonate the bomb whilst you're wrestling with him, safer to make sure he cannot carry out his act by killing him. Harsh, but then think how you'd feel if you had not stopped him and he had completed his task?

I could say he was a casualty of war, but that just sounds so american, but it is somewhat true.

It's really a catch 22 situation.

Hindsight might be 20/20 but the police didn't have the benefit.

Reality

It really depends on the intelligence they had on him and wether or not a proper challenge was made to him.

I know if someone shouted at me something along the lines of "Armed Police, Freeze" that's exactly what I'd do.

What happens though If the guy simply realised he was missing his train and tried to catch it. If the challenge was made after the guy had "bolted" it puts a new perspective on things.

We'll have to wait and see what comes out of the Enquiry !

Will be interesting to see what challenge was issued and when. I have some recollection that they are meant to issue a challenge three times before opening fire, but I could be wrong.

5 Shots is obviously to make absolutely sure he was dead - they are definately on a shoot the kill policy - they needed to be sure he was dead - the number of bullets used is irrelevant here.

The Issue for me is was he challenged correctly (at all) or were they following from too far behind, saw him running for the train and then concluded that he was a terrorist because he was running towards a tube train.

If the Police are gonna shoot you for running for a train they should at least warn everybody !
