Why would anyone pay that much?!

My car history is:-

1.6 Golf (18-19)
Golf GTI 16V (19-22)
UK Scooby (22-present)

Most I ever payed was £1200 (I changed the 'max £1000 a year rule' to 'max £100 a month rule' ) - and my mates/work colleagues thought I was mad. Glad I did it gradually as I've now got 8yrs NCD and my insurance is £950, still a lot IMHO. Had I been forking out £3000+ I would never have managed to get on the property ladder and I'd still be living with my parents when I'd gone 30!

Each to their own I suppose.

I think the only way of getting a stupidly low quote these days is by insuring something with zero power in it.... like a Fred Flintstone car perhaps?

That doesn't make sense.

Assuming we are talking classic shape Impreza (standard).....

Uk car = insurance group 17 - £8000
WRX = insurance group 19 - £3200

Unfortunately it probably puts more off paying insurance than buying the car
