That's a rather nice boat

Pirate costume is so needed though. Was at a regatta over the weekend and pirates were everywhere avast ye scurvy landlubbers!

I'd quite like a powerboat, but Rosie isn't too keen, being that she likes the old school way of sailing, all those sails and stuff. Is good to watch her out racing, but looks like far to much hard word I prefer to sit on the deck of a C&C 41 and drink beer whilst she's out winning

Yes, so is that changing ? I don't see how it can. Agricultural tractors use red diesel. Road vehicles are subject to road tax / excise duty on fuel. Are boats now going to be subject to road tax ?

Have you owned boats before? or driven one lots?
I am presuming and hoping you have! Although you do not need a licence or any formal training in the uk it would be unwise not to get some - I am sorry if I have miss judged this but as a previous person stated there are a lot of idiots in boats.

If not please really consider if you are confident with

1. VHF radio
2. Rules of the road
3. Man over board proceedures - immersion survival time is rated in minutes the sea will not reach max temp (still bloody freezing!) till mid to end of summer
4. Basic bouyage
5. Safety equipment and how to use it
6. Launching and recovery

RYA powerboat level 2 is widely regarded as the minimum standard to attain

Again sorry if I am telling you stuff you already know but if you already know it then you will understand why it has to be mentioned!

also purely imho but a RIB may be more suited to you can do everything you mentioned but much more useable in more varied conditions

Enjoy

Nice boat FB As a boat broker myself I particularly like the system of having to agree to buy and prove you can afford it before being allowed to view, I wonder if I could apply it to my narrowboat sales?

And yes, ditto what TopBanana says, red diesel is currently legal for use on boats, in fact just about every boatyard or marina in the country sells it. I've pumped many a gallon into boats myself.

Depending on your definition of a 'full day's skiing' I think you might find this is a little conservative!

We had a similar boat (Fletcher with a 5Ltr mercruiser) and it absolutely drank fuel! A full days skiing would see a couple of tankfulls down the drain!

LOL!
our 16' Fletcher GTO with a 95hp outboard used to do 9-10 galls in 5 hours skiing!

Nice boat BTW!

Since the '30s! You didn't get much leisure boating back then - it was mostly fishing fleets on the water. They were offered cheaper fuel for the same reason as land-based agriculture.

You could always get an LPG conversion done

I find it a bit odd that the dealer wants you to agree to buy it before he'll let you test it....necer heard of that before

I used to be one of the designated safety officers for a rowing club, so had to do RYA intermediate with costal and safety accreditations. That was about 20 years ago (God that makes me feel old), so I am thinking about a refresher (and no doubt relearn the phonetic alphabet.)

I haven't signed anything yet - They have to tow it to their marina (about 20 miles) let me mess about for a while, tow it back and then get someone to get it back to shiney showroom condition. I think they just want to be fairly sure that I am not a tyre kicker. I can still back out if I am not entirely happy with the test.

dpb: I thought you were alerting me to another change in the law from New Labour. My last boat was petrol. Never again. Prior to that deizle and it could run all the way to Aberdeen from the Tees on a tank.

TopBanana. Top info. Road tax on marine derv would scupper my plans.

BTW. The further North you come the cheaper the training courses.

Our nearest sizable marina is www.hartlepool-marina.com with lots of facilities and affiliation to training organisations.

wow - what a boat - absofekinglutely awesome. Things I didn't give consideration to..... wife and kids have never been on any boat more exciting than a car ferry. This baby was showing 55 knots on the speedo (so probably 10 knots in the real world) as the wife and kids chundered over the side (well to be accurate, leaned over a bit and chundered pretty much everywhere ) - I must admit that the swell and the speed made me just occasionally feel a shade queasy. Add the fact than wife and small person what is related to me both ended up crying with fear, I decided that that was probably not an ideal starter boat. Dealer was having a marina day today, so we went back down. Ended up buying a 15 ft fletcher with a 90 HP mariner..... quick enough without scaring the family. Had a spin in a very interesting 7l 390 HP maxum and then a Ribeye fitted with twin Yam 300 HPDI's. **** me - you couldn't even breath in facing bacwards in the ribeye... was that a sonic boom by any chance?? (p.s. - someone lendus 50k )
