LOL i'm glad i'm not the only one to notice single shoes lying in roads. Apart from that and always finding bags of pornos in hedges as a kid the the other mystery is why are there so many pidgeons in London with one foot missing 
Next time you are in London look at the pidgeons that are everywhere and notice how many of them have stumps where there feet should be

I did used to wonder that.. my bro collected quite a stash from the hedgerows/bushes in our local woods when he was about 10 or so 
Our 'dens' in the woods had some wicked wallpaper
