My concern was that the new cold air feed may be altering the airflow pattern around the maf sensor. Normally not an issue on this year of car but this car has gone from a mini scoop feeding the top of the filter, to a bottom air feed from the bumper area.
This however would not explain why it is detting whilst stationary at high rpm
I've never heard them det without load, thats a bit concerning tbh.

I don't blame the mapping just need to make sure that everything i can do has be done before i start looking internally!

Sorry to Hi-jack, but since getting my car mapped, I have added some ducting from the brake duct on the bumper to the hole in the wing next to my induction kit (to try to keep things cooler)- could this cause problems? Knock-link seems fine, but I haven't got anything to monitor AFR's with?

I am not sure that it would really have a bad effect if you are monitoring knock as this is what made see my problem in the first place albeit it was with the power fc knock display rather than a KL.

My cold air feed from front bumper definately distorts the airflow across the MAF, but it's only really noticeable at low flows (MAFV in the 2-3 region). It doesn't seem to have much effect when the airflow is high. It means trying to map consistent AFRs open loop on cruise at different vehicle speeds by adjusting the airflow tables is next to impossible.
I had a similar problem with progressive leaning out with increasing rpm due to a failing oem fuel pump. Fitting a walbro fixed it.
Are you sure it is det when revving at low load and not a loose fixing vibrating?
Whatever the cause, I'm sure Andy will quickly diagnose the problem

From: nice quiet village just outside Huddersfield surrounded by lovely A & B roads
I was unfortunate to have major over fuelling due to an faulty FSE!! OK so it wasn't on the Scooby i briefly owned but on the CRX VTEC i had before it(before you all take the p*ss it had a respectable 236bhp & 163lb of NA power
It's not that much more than what a standard UK Turbo has but in a car that weighted about 900kg when i'd finished with iy & redlined at 9k rpm it was serious fun
Anyway, back to topic, i binned the FSE, had a full rebuild using JDM Integra Type R oversized pistons, added with a 1.8VTEC block mated to my 1.6VTEC head, i bought a SARD FPR & never had any bother after that
I know there's loads of people out there that have probably been running an FSE for yrs with any bother, but there does seem to be aquite a lot that fail, more than any other FPR, although then there's the fact that there's probably a lot more FSE's being sold due to them catering for Jap & European cars
I'm trying to keep an eye on a lot of threads on here as i'm buying another Scooby soon. Preferably an STi Type R v5, if i can't find a suitable buy then i may go for an RB5 with PPP or a bug eye STi. Still a bit unsure about the STi Type R though as a mate that had 1 a while ago said that they're temperemental!!

Ok Folks an undate to this thread.
I went and got the mapper to check my problems with his wideband, det cans and laptop. After many runs of listening to the noise and watching both the wideband and laptop the conclusion was that the "det" was only present on lift off and between 5.5k and 7k. This meant that it could not be det since the throttle was closed and no fuel was being injected so therefore it is something internally that must be causing the noise. He has never heard this noise on any other car but he thinks the noise is so similar to detting that when it comes to advance the ignition or make the mixture leaner it makes it very hard to determine where the safe point is.
If anyone wants to throw a suggestion at what it might be then i would appreciate it.

This is different, it is not transitional det on a gearshift, it is a 'det-like' sound that is present throughout the overrun period, ie for a few seconds it will crackle away with the throttle shut, timing at 8 degrees and the injectors having been off for the duration.
It doesn't matter if the boost has been 1.4 bar or 0.4 bar, if the AFR has been 10:1 or 12:1, whether the timing is 30 or 3 degrees, in fact you can make it happen without even driving the car, just blip it over 5k and lift off !
