Pete,
Everyone has a right to an opinion (not strictly 100% true, but you get my drift), but ramming that opinion down peoples throat is not the way to go about it is it. The originator of this thread asked for HELP about the Knocklink, not asking whether they were useful or for comments on the people that think they are.... get my drift.
Since your "Educated Engineering" lets you make such statements as
You would of course also know that such retarding of the ignition is only within a threshold, and will certainly not stop engine failure caused by serious Det. Your statement is somewhat misleading.
Now as your statement of the worthfullness of a KnockLink in most hands, I have to say I agree with to a degree. Should the engine be setup correctly, no one should need a Knocklink in essence..... but, if you have your engine pretty close to the limit then for the sake of a few quid it's worth getting one, or if you are doing a load of mapping, testing etc etc, it is an easy thing to setup and use (which is the reason I have it) for this real reason.
It's horses for courses and at the end of the day is not hurting anyone. So if a person feels the need to fit one then so be it, no skin off of anyones else nose.
Now.... would'nt that tone be a better one to use?
Regards,
Shaun.

"Subaru supply a Knock Sensor on the block and its electronically connected to the ECU ...... imagine what happens, the Knock Sensor detects knock and within milliseconds retards the ignition."

ps lewis, i agree with some of your coments, but why do you refer to our engines as standard. a standard 2.0 ltr engine will produce a lot less power than a wrx.these engines even from standard are quite highly stressed, any monitoring of the cars sensors can only be a help cant they?.
also mate, can i ask you why you bought an impreza in the first place.........surely it wasnt because you enjoy paying high insurance premiums?or maybe more the practicality reasons and b road thrills, if so, why do you dislike the thought of people modifying.
