Oh if this is for a nice comfortable road car, rather than track based.

I'll say the Mini Cooper.

It makes up for it when it's going forward instead of turning round

This is turning into a <enter your random hot hatch here> thread.

As far as memory serves me - only 3 cars were put forward as the "best ever hot hatch".

Golf GTI Mk1

205 GTi

306 GTi-6.

Yep, cos I love the car so very much - it makes me smile when I try to manouvre in a small area. It's a cute flaw, like a fit girlfriend that has a slight lisp.

Most other cars I'd say "can't even turn a fooocking circle properly" with the Pug though I just say "ahh bless ya" and gently tap it on the dashboard.

Reviews I recall reading when I was after a GTi-6 as a daily drive when I was 19.

As for 205 and Golf - everyone knows about those claims!!

I'm sure there's stuff if anybody google's it if anyone has the time or inclination.

Yep. Couldn't have one as a daily drive, but as a fun/track car I really couldn't ask for more. As for power, only reason it's power is knocked is cos the car handles it all so easily.

So, increase power and tweak suspension and you're (well I) am laughing!!

Stripped the rear but totally ripping the guts out this weekend.

2 buckets/harnesses.

KW coilovers and that's it thus far.

Plenty more in the pipeline all to be done over the next 4-6 weeks will make a great car, err "greater" !!

I suppose traction control, Sat Nav etc is more readily available on some more modern cars. Er, Cool...

Yeah, thats because unlike the pugs (which just have sublime chassis), the modern hatches need TC as a away of countering a crap chassis.
