I think you think of me as more of a petrol head driver than I actually am
I spend most of my time on motorways, and I'm happy with a 15 minute Nurburgring time
Coming out off the CSL which was SMG, I just didn't want another car with a stick. The manual might be quicker, might be more of a drivers car, but these days I'd rather turn up my James Blunt CD and light another ciggy
If I was the stig, completely see your point, 100% manual all the way. But the amount of times I actually 'go for it' these days is slim. I just love cars, love being behind the wheel, love being in Europe.
When I got SMG in the first M3 I didn't miss sticks atall, I know that it's basically a manual box, but to be honest I left it in drive most of the time. Sure I have blasts through the country and switched over to padles, but 75% of my time was motorways!
It might not be for me, in which case the GT3 is next on my list, but I've got 12 days on Friday to put it through it's paces on a drive from UK > Ring > Switzerland, so when I get back I will be able to tell you what I think of it.
Then I'll probably post some pics of my GT3

It's in the market place as a luxury super car, not a track car, thats the GT3.
The 911 Turbo is too heavy to be a track car, it's all about leather, computers, classical music, but at the same time getting from A > B as fast as possible.
If you really want a drivers porker you buy the GT3.
The Turbo, with it's 4wd system, and tiptronic option is not the porker you want to choice if you want a track weapon.
And that is the reason why I wanted it, when the snow starts to set in around the Black Forest, I still want to reach my desination, something which the CSL or M3 for that matter couldn't do.
I'm in complete aggreement that a true drivers car should have a stick, yes 100%, but I'm not that driver.
If I was, and if that's want I wanted the GT3 would be on my drive.
SO yes aggree with you about the stick, but disaggree with you that 'I' made the wrong choice

But still, a auto is not much easier to drive on the motorway as you would be keeping it in the same gear anyway, all you have done with a Auto is make it even more lardy and slower, but hey it still not exactly slow looking forward to seeing it, and after all your driving it so choose whatever you want like the GT3 idea though

Well the tiptronis S does still have the option to change gear whenever you like, so it's not like I'm 100% restricted.
There are + & - here on both counts, Adam is coming at it from a purely drivers view point, where I am coming at it from a Touring viewpoint.
I think the manual is 9.3 to 100, and the Tiptronic is 10.4, so yes the manual is the quicker car, but I'm sure I'll cope with 10.4

Steve, I'd be interested to know how the SMG compares to the 'manual' setting of the tiptronic ie are the up/down changes of the tip as fast as the SMG?
I was quite impressed by the SMG and was wondering whether the tip was as good.
The tip/switch on my AMG is awful!!

Wierd, in the turbo I drove it actually changed pretty fast, all be it more smooth than SMG.
Maybe it's because the turbo has enough power to be able to get away with tiptronic?

An auto/tip is definitely a more relaxing drive, both around town and on the motorway - just relax and let the 'box sort out which gear is best. Alternatively you can change down using the buttons before an overtake maneuvure, and when slowing down for roundabouts. It is (nearly) the best of both worlds.

It sounds like the tip might be more 'slushy' like my car rather than sharp and aggressive like the SMG?

On kick down it nearly pushed me through my seat
I really think it's just down to what you want to the car for, if it's a weekend toy / track car - go manual. If it's a every day car and a European Cruiser go Tiptronic.
I'd image the 4.6 0-60 time of the manual is with them really giving it all in 1st gear. In real world I would not want to put my gearbox through that, so I'd imagine tip will be just as quick. IMO
But this time in 10 days I will off done about 2,000 miles in her, so will be more quailified on the subject

Accelaration:- Awesum
Tiptronic S:- It's for me, can understand Adam's point, but for my needs, this is the way to go.
Sound System:- Rocking!
Exhaust Note:- CSL Blows the Turbo Away, but I am still awaiting my sports exhaust.
Looks: Stunning
Brakes: Not as good, but then again I had full AP set up on the CSL.
