The holes beside the pickup are indeed for a removed chrome cover.

A Google on "Gotoh Gut" suggests that they make components for guitars (so they probably made at least the neck).

The adjuster at the base of the neck is in the wrong position for a Fender (look at the 1975 picture and you'll see the equivalent adjuster on the head just above the nut).

Without any maker's markings what makes you think that it is East German? The Japanese components and possible Seventies origins might point to it being an Aria (A pretty good Fender copy).

doug, I assume that's not yours because the settee throw isn't bright enough
And for those of you watching in black and white, the guitar is in front of the purple, orange, yellow, green, blue, red, more purple.......

Antoria were making decent copies around that time, too.

A tiny sticker on the rear of the neck says 'Made in GDR'

But the torque adjuster thingy points to a Japanese model??

No, they all have them (truss rods) it's just that true Fenders have them in a different place to yours.

Precision Copy alright - depending on what type of sound you want, I'd put some nice coated Rotosound strings on it

It's certainly no Warwick bass, but will sound OK (to most people). I personally, would whack it through my valve compressors (Drawmer 1960 & Focusrite - proper professional recording kit ) and maybe a bit of vintage EQ. This is what I do for a living (and make a very good one at that!!), so I'll make no apologies for getting a bit nerdy!!

One other thing Pete, get yourself some decent plectrums and even more important - a bass guitar tuner!!!! There's nothing worse than an out-of-tune guitar/bass.

I would also pay about £40/£50 to get it set up professionally (unless you've done this before) - get it all sorted out.

Nice one

I think that Sky and the Shadows play great music.

I can write you some backing tracks...........at a cost

Your best bet is to look at the teaching books that come with CDs - the only problem will be is that the CDs cater for practicing 1 instrument...... still it would be a start - about £10 from most music shops.....

Bloody 'ell - White Stripes II, The Revenge.

Be afraid......

Just install something like Steinberg Groove Agent on your computer and it turns it into a very realistic sounding 'virtual drummer'. Problem solved.
