shameless plug http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthread.php?t=432793
these do about 25mph on fields or big gardens
easier for me as i have permission to ride a field close to my house
the important thing is to make sure protective gear is worn cos accidents do sometimes happen
in all its probabally no more risky than tree climbing or resevoir swimming but these days kids dont even get to do that i suppose(back when i were a lad etc etc)

as for cags falling apart-as long as you are competant enough to maintain an engine and know where to buy nylock nuts and threadlock you'll be fine
otherwise use your regular car/bike mechanic

Popped into motorbike shop on the way home yesterday, there is a little de-tuned 50 cc "scrambler" ?? type bike. I dont know what these are called.

With a screw and nut on the throttle, can restrict it to 6/7 miles an hour to begin with, then increase it to suit.

The price seems to be increasing however these things are £850 new.

Any links/ideas where to look for other options similar to what i have just described, as this seems by far the more sensible option, as i think i will be getting the mini moto for ME

Right, now you are happy I was telling you the truth, look for a secondhand bike. There are plenty about for circa £300 in superb condition. It doesn't have to be a 2005 model for your sons use and pay mega bucks.

eBay will give you a feel for what's about for starters.
