Its all a bit bitchy in this thread isn't it!

I'd normally only expect this sort of conduct from cat owners!

i seem to remember you posting about how your dog ate a can of dog food in the can and that you had been gifted it and didnt care for the animal
to be honest i suspected the poor beast led a terrible existance with you as its owner
i couldnt give a toss if you are staggered or not and my wit is not going to alter on the suggestion of some nutter from the internet.

my dog did eat a can of dog food.....so what?

my latest dog was a gift....so what?

i "care" for it.....i dont like it though.

"led a terrible existance " based on what? you have no idea how i treat it. if i had a gun i would shoot it dead but in the abscence of suitable waeponry the thing lives an excellent life with ample rest, exercise, diet, interaction with my other dogs, etc - it has no wants and is very happy indeed (i can only assume it either knows i have no weapon or it doesnt realise what i would do if it did.....because it displays know emotional traits to suggest it lives in any fear)

the reason i dont suggest them is:

Too expensive for many people in the first place
Prone to more vets bills than average...more cost
Large and heavy so kids and smaller people cant walk them with 100% security (like if they see a cat!)
Tough.....they barge pass people without a thought and can easily knock older people over - not ideal at the top of the stairs for example
Clingy....they love people and that can be a pain when they want to sit on you the whole time

The positives are mirrored by many other breeds so i see no point selecting one with negatives like these.

I`ve had "dogs" since i was a small boy I`m now 40, my Mrs has had "dogs" since she was small.
My fav breed is a GSD I`ve had three, one was ok in every way 2 of them turned out to be problematic, they were ok with myself and immediate family but strangers .
Deffinately would not recomend one to an OAP unless they understand the breed.

My Mrs has had 3 EBT breeding bitches over 15 years. One was a pshyco which had to be caged if a stranger came to the house, would go mad if she saw another dog, and was very unpredictable, one just could not be house trained, she would cr&p on the floor in front of you, had to be kept in an outside kennal and run. The other just couldn`t be faulted in any way except she was a bit over powering when she wanted to make a fuss. And she was the pshyco`s pup.
Mrs has had a Whippet, loverly dog just liked his peace and quiet, thats when the EBT`s and the pups would give him some.

Yorkie, just one word Schitzo, had to race to get to the post in the morning. Had plenty a nip of this one.
And presantly the Mini Schnauzer very loving dog couldn`t hurt anyone if he wanted.

So my advice is that any dog no matter how big or small can have their problems, and I believe its the temprement of the dog and not human error in how they grow up.

How many Staffy owners here can take their dog for a walk in the park off the lead and not worry about it getting involved in a scrap with another dog?

Practically all Staffs I see are very quickly ushered back to the owner and put on a lead as soon as they see me with my dog?
oh and one last thing, why do they wear those stupid studded collars

Danny I think you'll find its down to the owner. Council Estate yobs own staffs... thats why they end up like their reputation, I know a few staffys with nice pleasant respectable owners and the dogs are just the same. I walk my Bully off the lead all the time, hes very playful and boysterous but the only dogs who growl and snarl at him are labrador type breeds. Most other dogs will charge about like headless chickens with each other

Me for one mate.

My staff has never started a fight, but he will finish it !

It's always been other dogs that have been agressive towards him first.

As for some people on here saying that human input has nothing to do
with a dogs temperament, i say your talking rubbish.

It annoys me when people sterotype certain breeds through sheer ignorance !

my EBT would kill another dog if it went for him.....my lurchers would run away - i would rather walk the lurchers.

I agree with scoobfan!

All those who stereotype Staffs obviously havn't owned one b4 or had many dealings with them.

After training & bringing up my 6 year old staff and having friends with staffs I can't see how anyone can judge the breed!! Alright they have lots of energy & it may be too much for some people but that doesn't make me or any of my friends CHAVS or the breed any less loveable!!!!!!!!!!!!

He would rather lick you to death than eat/bite/savage you!!

Why not suggest a Scottie or a Cairn - serious alternatives to a Westie. Ours are 11 and 12 and still as lively as ever. Ace characters, easy to look after and lots a fun....

Harry The Scot...

since getting my dog back in january, whilst out walking the only breed of dog that has been aggressive towards her is the staffordshire bull terrier, however they are generally being walked by teenage cap wearing fcukwits.
it must be the way they're brought up because the woman who walks her when im at work walks her with a beautiful white staff that has one of the nicest temprements ive come across!

You have to take into consideration that the Stafford is the most popular Terrier in this country, and the 4th most popular breed all round.

Therefore you are likely to meet more staffords that most breeds and therefore more agressive dogs of that breed, the numbers add up

But, like i said before, it's how the dog is brought up, early socialisation for this breed is essential.

Noo.....

Similar origins, as is the Cairn. But have a closer look - a Scottie's nose is much longer than a Cairn or Westie (which are both effectively just about the same, except for their colouring).

I always reckon Cairns & Westies look 'cute', whereas Scotties look 'noble' or 'distinguished'.

Yo Tiggs my mom would kick your moms *** !!

Grow up dude !!

I think the cat idead is a good one. I think your parents would have the least worries in a few years time but still have a valuable member of the family But then again, as the saying goes " You never own a cat, a cat owns you"

Harry, the Cairn looks great

They're still looking and they have rang a few dogs homes over the last few days

Voddie mate i dont think a cats a good idea. They're not that fond of them. There are loads around were they live and if they aren't screaming like babies in the middle of the night then they are sh1tting in the borders of their garden
