I see Game are now saying this on there website with regards the X360 full package unit :
Please note: We are now unable to promise delivery of the Xbox 360 pre-Christmas. We will endeavour to fulfil new orders placed for the system as soon as is possible but are currently unable to speculate when exactly that will be. We are however, able to continue to take orders for our first allocation of the Xbox 360 Core System until further notice. For more information please see our F.A.Q.

Gameplay are saying something similar . . .
Please Note - Demand for the Xbox 360 is extremely high and therefore at this time we are unable to guarantee delivery for release date on pre orders placed after 23/08/05 - 11.00am. We still advise placing an advance order to join the queue for the best chance of receiving a console.
* Your Credit/Debit Card will be charged when we despatch your order
Must have had a lot of pre-orders Wonder what they'll be going for on eBay at Christmas

I suggest you go in to your LOCAL shop and not use the internet. My local Game store has stated I will receive one on the first day of release, as I was only number 5 in the list....... and this order was made TODAY!
Dont forget the internet shop will also have a predefined number of pre-orders as well as the shops. Personally I would rather have it from a shop.... that way I know I can pick it up on 1st day of release, instead of waiting days for the delivery and also just think about all those box's floating around the postal system on that first day of release...... I wonder if they all actually end up going to the person that ordered it (if you know what I mean )
Just my 2p's worth.
Regards,
Shaun.

Yeah I was just about to post I can't see many people buying just the core package as it's not really worth it if you want to upgrade at a later date it's gonna cost you ££££££££ for the add ons

I'll be keeping both my original Xbox's
the chipped one I have is the best gadget I've ever bought. XBMC is worth the money on it's own.
Anyone know when the official release date is announced ?

Just looked on Gameplay's site - seems as though the AV connection has no Optical output......... no DTS then?
Anybody know any different - looks like I could be popping into town tomorrow

Looks like they have been watching the modding community pretty closely and learnt a lot. http://xbox.gamespy.com/articles/642/642835p1.html

The Media page was a lot of fun because the audience was given a full tour. With WiFi connectivity the Xbox 360 can communicate with your home PC network, so all those MP3s and movies you have you can pop right onto your Xbox 360 for watching on TV. Music can be accompanied by a light show (designed, as it turns out, by Jeff Minter, creator of the classic arcade Tempest).
Got an iPod? You can simply plug it in to the Xbox 360 USB port and your music library will show up. Henson proceeded to do so and his tunes showed up on the Xbox 360 as just another folder to browse. Browsing photos is just as easy, and to show this off Henson connected his PSP (!) to the Xbox 360 and his photo gallery popped into the system. You can have your musical selections play as you set up and run a slideshow. Henson pointed out that a Microsoft product was communicating with devices from Apple and Sony - who would've thought?
The Xbox 360 is also fully compatible with the Windows Media Center, a feature that Henson only briefly demonstrated. He took some HD video he'd recorded off of television earlier and displayed it on the screen. Then, while watching TV, opened up the Xbox dashboard to show how you could message friends while watching TV.
The conference moved on to the software that will be available for the new system. Here the Xbox 360 doesn't come out as strong, although a handful of impressive titles were on display. Project Gotham Racing 3 was particularly solid, featuring city tracks so realistic that in still frame I thought I was looking at a photograph. The level of detail that a powerful system like the Xbox 360 can put out is pretty inspiring: the rear view mirrors on the cars actually reflected the rear view, and stands packed with cheering crowds were actually filled with 3D models of people. Toshio Murouchi from Squaresoft also swung by to talk about Final Fantasy XI for Xbox 360, which is on display on the show floor.
The final game shown, which took up a substantial part of the presentation, was Rare's latest Kameo: Elements of Power. Although the characters were exaggerated and cartoony, the level of detail in the world was incredible. During a huge castle siege scene, while fighting dozens of well-animated enemies, birds scurried along the ramparts and dozens of dragons circled around in the distance. To really show the game off, the demo ended with a monstrous fight scene involving thousands of trolls and elves fighting all up and down a hillside, Lord of the Rings style. The scale was enormous.

What does the PS3 have to offer? GT5?
I'm buying a 360 then in a years time when the PS3 arrives I'll make a judgement then about it.

***** to that just buy it as well when it's out, they are going to have to push it out around the same price as the 360 otherwise it will fall flat on it's face

I think Microsoft have got an awesome package here with the console, price, Live and they have many titles in development. They will certainly hit sony but Sony will still rule the roost because of the East and the US.

Cant help but think the PS3 will have better games though. I have both Xbox & PS2 and always play my PS2 [GT4 & PES].
Although XBox live is great it doesnt keep me coming back for more like the PS2 all IMHO.

What I can't understand is why Sony didn't show anything PS3 wise at the computer show in Germany, M$ had a hour long conference showing all the aspects of the X360 even to the point of plugging a PSP into it to show photos that were stored on the memory card !!!!
