The oversteer possibility is there of course with rear wheel drive, but it usually requires a pretty powerful engine to produce the "snap" oversteer mentioned. The modern BMW's are fairly progressive as far as oversteer is concerned, my own M3 Evo is particularly good and in fact handles as well as my previous STi which had the bump steer removed and the solid rear anti roll bar links. It is virtually neutral in the wet and it is really enjoyable to be able to control it with the wheel and throttle. One of the best bits of a rear wheel drive car without traction control. The E12 M535i which I had some years ago was not quite so good in that respect. The point I was making was that there is no reason to be scared of a rear wheel drive car unless it is one of the old VW Beetles which soon taught you the rudiments of car control in the wet, but at fairly low speed

It wasnt just a bit of worn rubber, the one tyre they let him off for was low, the other was bald over 75% of the width ! seeing as the only thing that stops you flying off into a hedge around a corner is that little bit or rubber ( ever looked how big the contact patch with the road is on a tyre ? ) its pretty dangerous.

I think the cops were generous to let him off the low one ( he could've had 6 points ) as I bet he would have let that go bald before replacing it as well.

Get the feeling he had spent so much on the car and insurance, he couldnt afford to maintain it properly ? he was moaning if he got points then he'd have to get rid of the car - good - buy something cheap you can afford to look after and keep safe.

Think how you would feel if some nobber smashed into you because of bald tyres ?

Sorry for the rant, but its something really gets on my nerves when people dont keep their car roadworthy - I dont give a stuff if they want to kill themselves, but if it leads to someone else being injured or killed, then thats a different matter !!!!!!!!
