Different tastes I suppose. Some people like cars that you can twiddle the steering wheel with your little finger, easy and safe to handle and drive, so it can be allowed to be driven by weak armed sissys (ducks for cover ) that is probably what has caused the Impreza to be made the way it is.

Me preferring cars that needed working at to get the best out of them. Keeping the rawness, but still very drivable and not tiring when your not in the mood. A good example is a well sorted mid 80's 911 (most of my experience is with '87 911 Supersport - which isn't anything special). Sure, most will scoff that the handling will kill you, has a clunky gearbox, and a clutch needing a left leg like a rugby player. But its not a car anybody can drive straight away - unlike a scoob, When you know how to drive it properly and worked well it gives some many grins and fulfiment that no scooby has ever managed to do with me (except a quick whiizz in a rally prepped one...wow ). Yet I never found it tiring to drive, a doddle round town once you've mastered the box and clutch (not hard imo). The impreza is a doddle full stop, and that's the problem its too easy = boring and uninvolving, even if it maybe faster in twisties or off the lights. Some may say this as a good thing, but I think differently - what's the point of doing 100+mph if you can't feel it?

Varboy...which WRX are you talking about; new or classic? As they both have different good and bad characteristics. The newer indeed is more more user friendly. A better overall driving experience imo, but at the same time they have softened up and lost the raw basics of the classics (good in one sense, bad in others).

I'm actually glad I have a scoob with finger light steering today, as I've somehow strained my right arm karting yesterday (must be getting old ). But once that's cleared up I'll be back to hating it again as usual.

For the money you can't beat it, but I just don't rate over much more expensive cars it or other people claim that it outperforms.

Perhaps as an explaintion as to why: Driving a impreza 1.6GL you can see where the Impreza started its humble life and what the chassis was truely deveolped from, it doesn't inspire much. Stiffen the suspension and add bigger turbo'd engine and better gearbox and thats the crude starting point the old classic Impreza went off on.
