I've noticed in the evenings that i am really tierd but that is due to me having more energy during the day , I feel good really good, the evenings are the worst though especially after my evening meal .

i gave up last new years eve. i used the nicorette freshmint gums, they worked well.
no relapses or anything, but ive put on weight (about a stone) and i really do miss **** at times, especially after meals and when drinking. but it has eased off a bit, and i remind myself why i quit (all the chemicals in the ciggies, the way they feckin stink really bad, getting out of breath coz of a cancer stick, money down the drain, the list goes on!)
feckin outrageous when you think about it! bl00dy madness.glad to be rid of them.

Gave up properly October last year, wish I had done it sooner. I simply just stopped, no patches or anything and had been on 20 a day and relied on them massively for dealing with being stressed out. I used one simple thing to stop, the thought of what it had done to me and would do to me if I continued smoking and that I wanted to see my kids grow up. This was enough to stop me outright. I still get mental cravings for them now but they only last a matter of seconds before I think why I don't give into my cravings. Plus smelling someone who smokes once you have given up is disgusting and makes you cringe at knowing thats what you used to smell like to other people and I would not want my kids having to smell that everyday.
You have to want to stop. If you want to enough you don't need patches or books etc. You just stop.

Started when I was 19, got up to 60 a day or so before waking up one morning feeling like **** and suddenly realising that I was killing myself.
Couldn't just stop so went from Capstan Full Strength (OK so I'm old) to Silk Cut and got down to about 10 a day. I signed off my tobacco allowance so I had to buy them at full price rather than the silly rate we got them in the mob. That helped.
Then I bought and chain-smoked a pack of Galoises. Halfway through I was sick and that was it - I'd given up.
That was when I was 25. I'm 42 now. Probably get the urge half a dozen times a year and will light someone's cig for them (and get that crucial first hit) maybe once a year.
I've had ONE whole cigarette since...

Big well done to all of you who have given up the old smokes.
I started when I was 13 and managed to give up at 27 through a prescribed drug called 'zyban' (think thats the spelling), anyway gave up for two years and thought I had it nailed.......
Then a split with the now ex partner involving 2 kids and I was back on them.
Just need to get my head round quitting and am sure I will manage it again.

I've gave up two weeks ago now. Not that long I know, but for some reason I'm more dertermined to do it this time than anytime I've tried to quit before.
I gave up at the beginning of the year for about 4 months, but started up again once I'd been out on the town and had one too many to drink and then without thinking about it and was soon smoking 15-20 a day again!
When I've tried to quit before, I've always smoked to the end of the packet and then said, 'Right thats it, I'm not buying anymore'. The difference this time is that I woke up in the morning and suddenly thought, 'I dont really want a *** this morning'. I've still got a packet of 20 in my kitchen cupboard but have not once had the urge to smoke one. Suddenly its a completely different feeling for me now and I know that I dont want to smoke anymore.
Plus my fella's a non smoker and its not pleasant kissing someone who smokes when you dont, so I think that may be playing a part of it also! He's been very supportive which has also been a great help.

Hello All
Glad to see my thread is still rising from the Ashes.
Congrats to tmo for passing a month
It will be the start of my fouth 4th week on Monday (to myself )
about a week ago i went to stock up on patches and they did not have the ones I wanted so I did not get any and I have been without them for a week ( has been slightly harder )
I also had a packet in the kitchen draw ( 13 inside ) but it chucked them in the bin the other night and have not looked back since !! felt liberated, i wih I could say I feel great but I can't as I have a nasty cold at the moment and i'm suffering with it , but as for the non smokeing WOO HOO
good luck every one who has given up

I gave up 12 years ago after smoking 20 a day and more at weekends whilst down the pub. I'd done this for about 10 years. You just have to decide that you want to give up. I mean really want to give up.
I bought some patches to help, five I think, and never used the last one saving it for when I couldn't do without a cigarette.
I had a couple of lapses when I was really drunk but I'd never touch one again.
I did read some research that suggested starting smoking cigars at 65 offset Alzheimers and that the positives outweighed the negatives as you were likely to die of old age before you could develop lung cancer but I think the jury's out on this one
