Dont know where you got that from, look after them and they last - I have an immaculate 92 405 Mi16 which i've just sold and an immaculate 1991 205 GTi.
Neither of them have any rust or crap build quality.
Both have outlasted the likes of R5 GTT's, Escort RS's etc.
With French cars you seem to get 1 bad one in 10. All of the Pug's i've owned have been good on reliability and build quality. They aren't up to German stds but i've always enjoyed them.

Same here, the GTi-6 is a 1996 P-Reg so 9 years old at the end of this year, but my R5 GT Turbo is a 1990 H-Reg and was 15 years old last week, still looks well, only the odd spot of rust here & there, but minimal rattles and never ever fails to start first time!

I had 3 new GTi-6s in a row when I lived out in Germany, ah the tax free life!! A Blaze Yellow P reg, a black S reg and a Red T reg with all the Pug sports parts - twin lamps, alumininium rear spoiler, 17" TSW Venom wheels etc etc anyway they all had one or 2 troubles and were still great cars. I graduated to 306GTi-6's from 205GTI's and 306 DT so I will always have a soft spot for them. Superb fun on A & B roads, fast enough on Autobahns and great fun round the 'ring and nearby roads! Poor build quality, great drivers car. When I changed my last '6' for a Turbo 2000 scoob a lot of people asked why and many even felt the scoob was less exciting than the 6 even if it was faster....then I got a P1 and they all changed their minds...I wonder why?
So the rose tinted glasses of the past say great car, part of my motoring history, but the fact is I wouldn't want to own one again, give me the new Golf GTi any day and in real terms even that can't be much more expensive today than the GTI-6 - it was an expensive toy from new.

Does anyone HONESTLY think that the auto wipers are not $hite ? It might not be so bad if the auto setting had not done away with the intermittent setting so you had a choice. I've driven many Pugs with the auto setting, and they all seem to have a mind of their own and one will work very differently to the next. They might work well on a pricey BMW or something like that, with better / more expensive components used, but you know its all been done on the cheap with Peugeot and it shows IMO, which is a shame.
This might all sound like fairly trivial stuff, but overall spoils the car a bit as a daily driver, and dont they look dated nowdays when you start looking round at other cars?

Forester dude - never had any issues like you say with my Phase 1. They also didn't have the rain sensing sh!te weight addition Never went under 30mpg and I ragged the **** out of it, the 6sp was a joy, missed it in every car since that didn't have 6.
Mine was on lowered springs (25mm) and cornered almost as fast as my MY99 UK turbo on Eibachs, bumpsteer, droplinks and alignment from Powerstation.............
Phase 1 was far better, actually stood out from the run of the mill, unlike peugeot using up the parts bin with the phase 2. They were also a bit more edgy on the limit (equals more fun). Plus they looked the nuts with the bumpers fully coded and the phase 2 rear lights

In reality, the 306 GTi-6 IS the best hot hatch until the 182. The 172 came close but the GTi-6/Rallye was still that bit better.
Reading most reports, a 2004 Clio 182 is only "equally as good" as the 306. So, a car designed 8 years after can still only "match" the 306.
There you have it!!

Sorry i do not agree agree. 8 years later means alot more legislations regarding safety, and emissons. Safety is important and so is emissons and so it is not as clean cut as you have made it out regarding the 182 Vs 306 Gti.

Just spotted that there is a stupidlty cheap P1 GTi-6 on eBay for £1700 "Buy it now" and that is a hell of a lot of car for the money... looks ok as well, not a shed!?

Had my Astor GTI 6 for 2 months and love it - previous to this i've had 3 Integrales, 944 S2, 2 Classic scoobs, Elise S160 and Audi S3 and the 306 is easily as much fun and quick in the real world as any of them and costs peanuts to run in comparison
