what sets them ahead as a drivers car, IMHO of course, is the short gearing and torque split- the latter bringing about some rwd handling characteristics that inexperienced drivers may consider 'lairy'.
Just for carification - the WRX RA did not come with DCCD, although a swap may have happened at some point in it's life.

Look what you can do with just a good quality zorst (centre and back but still has original downpipe cat), fuel pump, green panel filter, hoses and a ecutek remap.

Run in 4th on coolish day

Run in 5th on a very warm day

Chris - would you mind putting your PICs, Spec and bits like the above altogether and putting it on the RA ltds thread? Maybe some details regards length of ownership, spec when you bought it orginally, that sort of thing. Don't worry if you can't be arsed - i've clearly got too much time on my hands.

granted, although the DCCD has nothing to do with the rear driving habits of the WRX Type RA; the torque split on the non DCCD car is similar to an STi Type R / RA with the diff open.

have had seven of them now, both WRX Type RA and STi Type RA

Tell me more.

I've always believed that all non DCCD cars had a 50/50 torque split. My RA is entirely different in character to my old UK car, but I put this down to the suspension mods on the RA. The RA is much more rear-centric with virtually zero power on/push on under steer (only when you mis-judge the entry speed, which is a desirable trait).

I am so flamin' sad that I'm actually excited by this revalation

The non sti RA will have similar (if not exactly the same) torque split to an STi RA, circa 35 / 65, front to rear. With DCCD on the STi variant of the RA you can move this to circa 50/50.

Hope this helps.

something like that J

Open front diff, rear suretrack sounds about right.

It will feel more rear wheel drive, the 50:50 can make them feel a little inert, and a locked DCCD can be down right scary if you've not driven with one before. Have a look at John Felsteads DCCD thread for more info on that if you're interested.

I'm considering booking an appoinment with the Doc for obsessive compulsion.

Any one else like to confirm what Mr RRH has said? People taking educated guesses or looking up inaccurate sources need not apply

What do you have the moment RRH? By the way, just to be increasingly pedantic, 36/64 is the split according to John's manuals.

Incredibly pedantic to be honest

My track / sprint car is an STi4, US2.5 short engine, Link ECU, MD304, coilovers, APs etc etc.

I was only joking RRH you've been by far the most helpful and informed person on this thread. Really meant no offence mate.

Can you reccommend any threads on open Diffs? Also, would the centre diff on the RA be Viscous?

best wishes

J

I think the centre diff is viscous but thats about where it gets too techy for me. I just drive 'em. I'm fairly sure your rear diff will be suretrack. Once again JF is your best bet.
