Well thats a totally different question! My guess is that most prostitutes find their customers through adverts in the newspaper, or on the internet, and have a different image to those found on street corners!

The UK has a completely uncontrolled prostitution industry, there are huge problems with the trafficking of women from Eastern Europe and Asia, sex workers are not subject to compulsory health checks and the lack of legal premises means that they have to often work in dangerous places or put themselves in dangerous situations (alone in a flat for example)
Legalising the industry and allowing brothels could completely clear a lot of this up, as it has done in Australia, NZ and some European countries. (and bring in tax revenue) It won't get rid of the trafficking bit it has the effect of pushing it out and allowing people to identify them.
Did you also know that the STD rate amongst sex workers is significantly lower than the general population?

1. Do you know that lots of girls are brought into this country with promises of this and that, and are then forced into prostitution?
They have their passports taken away and threats made against their families if they run away.
Thats not right.
2. Then there are all these junkies and girls turned into junkies by pimps.
Thats not right.
3. Then there is the minority of clean pros, who choose to do this for a living.
Thats their choice
Lets face it....you dont really know what you're getting and chances are it will be one of the first 2. I think the people should think twice about fueling such a nasty trade.

Reality, you are just an idiot, incapable of reading the context of a sentence.
The fact that prostutution is illegal endangers lives because it means there is a much larger trade in the trafficking of women and then bonded sexual slavery, where it is the norm for many of these to be beaten, raped, made to have unprotected sex and in some cases killed (they are illegal so they are never missed).
In addition the lack of regulation regarding health checks will also endanger workers and clients as well as the safety of their work locations.

How do you feel about paedophiles - maybe we should legalise child sex too - that way the kiddies might not get killed.
You have the right to have low moral standards - but don't try and drag the rest of us with you.

I suspect that this turns Reality on, but I'll post it anyway.

The women in the IOM shelter have been expelled from the Middle East, Europe, South America. Some have been kicked out of Britain, detained by immigration and sent home 24 hours later. Many have been tortured. Holmes gives me an example. 'One of the girls here was picked up by the Caribinieri in a car park in Bologna. Her pimp had taken out her front teeth to make it easier for her to give oral sex. She is 16 and comes from a village 30 miles from the border with Yugoslavia. She believed she was going to work in a restaurant. When they brought her in, she was naked and had been badly beaten. She was deeply traumatised, unable to speak. When her family learnt what had happened, her father shot himself.
