Will America Take This as a Warning??

they wouldn't be the first people to underestimate the unpredictable power of nature and live to regret it (eh michael fish?). and it just goes to show that "society" is still just a thin veneer: anarchy and our feral nature lives just a few millimetres below the surface.

There has been no aid for the people of New Orleans or Mississippi,
to think this can happen in the 21st centuary in the richest counrty
in the world is unreal.
Bush dosen't have a hope in hell getting back into office after this shambles
and good ridance i say !!!!
My thoughts are with them.

And, yes, just goes to show human nature when the rules are not being played out ..................... we all become thieving pikeys!!!
However, there always is a however, stories of extreme goodwill and compasion will surface in the coming months and years ..... but, of course, those stories don't sell papers and news like the looting at gunpoint stories, do they??

I'm appalled at his complacency and apparent inability to act.

Actually Bush is doing a pretty good job, he allowed the state authorities to deal with the situation up to a point, but is now taking a more direct role.
I don’t think anyone has any idea how much of the surrounding infrastructure is damaged, it takes time to get large quantities of food/water in and people out – remember NO is in the middle of a swamp (anyone who’s driven down I-10 will know how desolate it gets not far from the city).
There’s 20000 people in the superdome, the only practical way of moving them out (long distance – to Houston) is by bus, that’s a mammoth operation. Not forgetting those who aren’t in the superdome – how many more is there??? It’s going to take days, if not weeks
At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter if it’s a first world country or third world country, when an area is hit that hard everything takes a lot longer than it seems it should, it’s the nature of the problem.
Just because you can’t watch NO being re-built overnight on CNN (or what ever “news” station you prefer), doesn’t mean nothing is happening.
Bush can do another term, he must sit one out first though,
As far as global warming being a likely cause of this, don’t be silly, you do know there’s an ice age on the way don't you?????

no, it's a natural disaster but bush & the bad old US of A is still to blame!

Thing is, although these phenomena have undoubtedly been here since time began, one of the major causal factors for hurricanes is warm sea temperatures (that's why there's a hurricane season).
Hurricanes form in tropical regions where there is warm water (at least 27 degrees Centigrade), moist air and converging equatorial winds. 27 degrees is significant as that's when convection really starts to happen, creating huge disparities in air pressure.
Given that the Gulf of Mexico is now at record temperatures - 30 Centigrade is pretty high, I think you'd agree, which is around 4 degrres warmer than in 1950 - it's fair to level at least some of the blame on the US economy, as the burning of fossil fuels undoubtedly leads to increased atmospheric warming.
