I wonder how long we are all going to put up with it. Maybe we ought to be abit more like our neighbours then..Just went to my local optimax station which i always frequent as they are suppose to be cheap and they have jacked prices up to 102p, with threats of higher increase..

one thing I really don't get is that the percentage to the government doesn't change yet the base price of oil changes. So a small change in the cost price makes massive swing in the purchase price due to government taxation.
I don't see how the government can justify this. Yes they need the revenue from somewhere, but they could not in advance predict the change in the base price of oil. If thye were coping when the base price meant that fuel was 90p per litre, how can they say they now "need" the extra 10p per litre, when they couldn't predict they would get it.
I think the taxarion on fuel should be a flat rate, that way the small changes, will be just that, small.
I am sure someone is now going to tell me that petrol is taxed at a flat rate rather than as a percentage of the cost price!

Yes, it is a flat rate (aside from the vat element).

Where I live, Harpenden, herts there are 2 shell garages one is 5 miles (redbourn) and the other is about 9miles Chiswell green. Unleaded is 93.9 a litre, not sure what optimax, sothing like 98.9?? still expensive tho.

in the paper a few weeks back there was an article about petrol and every £40 you spend the government get £30 it might of changed now buout of that £10 the compnys have to buy artics,drivers,oil rigs,tankers,drilling equipment,refinerys and probably more so thank blair and his so called greatest chancellor
