The Insurance hikes are going to make the Impreza unsaleable ................... I remember the Sierra Cosworth, insurnace premiums made them as cheap as chips!!

Some of these posts really make me chuckle. If you REALLY care about the image of your car, sell it. Simple. OR get over the fact that anybody who can buy the car is entitled to have one. I've posted this before (and suprisingly nobody commented about it - even with the amount of over-active opinions out there!) - there's alot of people (especially on this BBS) who can't handle the fact that their once percieved as exclusive car, is now available to the masses. It always has been available, but it was a well-kept secret Well, get over it.

Here's why -

There have been some posts recently about the hidden running costs of these cars. Age doesn't come into it - no matter how old the car is, these are expensive motors to run/feed. I know a fair few people who've had to chop their Scoob in for something else because they couldn't afford to run it.

So what - there's an article in Max Power about how to buy a cheap Scoob. Most of the buying public happen to be schoolboy teenagers who can get hold of the "topshelf" magazines Even those who are old enough to get hold a Scoob - god forbid, but there's a strong chance that within 6-12 months, the car will be written off anyway, thus reducing the amount decent examples available. THEREFORE, helping with your residuals!!!

The problem is with the owners, not the car.......

Dan

PS "Well said Gangsta!!!"
Well said that man (and Gangsta Smurf)!!

Totally agree....but a few years down the line well cared for standard cars are worth a mint. I went through the Cosworth dilemma but when I came to sell it I made money.
I looked on a Fiat Coupe site the other day and one of the threads asked why the Coupe had become a Chav motor.
As I've said before the chav makes the car not the other way round.

Just to give my thoughts, I'm 23 and am currently trying to buy my first turbo. I work Very hard for my money and treat the car far better than most. when you work hard for something you tend to treat it right!
I'll be honest I dont wear caps or tuck my socks over my pants but I don't always wear a suit either.

Seeing **** eds driving scoobies always gets to me but I think well good for them..

The Scoobie is NOT a chav car, I've seen my share of bad cruises and the Scoobie is in a totally different league.

Just my thoughts

LOL well said Gansta Smurf / ScoobyDoo555!

People can buy whatever bloody car they like - it's none of my business or anyone else's on here whether they buy a Scoob or not. If some chav gets one and runs it for a month before being crippled by the fuel bills, servicing and insurance (assuming he can actually GET insured at all) then fine - it's no skin off my nose. His Lexus lights and four different makes of tyres all on the same car just halt the deprecitation on my totally standard/mint-looking wagon.

Every decent motor, ever, has always been denounced as a chavmobile as soon as it dropped in price. The thing is though, true chav cars are just about insurable for 'youngsters'. Properly fast cars are not, simple as that. Plus logic would suggest that any chav driving a Scoob would want it insured for their own peace of mind, and if they don't, and they stack it or it gets nicked then that's a 3 grand lesson that they won't forget in a hurry. No-one has that amount of money to waste, no matter how many rocks of crack they are selling a week LOL

So live and let live, don't be snobs...this happens on every forum! When I used to admin Cliosport, everyone looked down on Saxos and Novas. And I'm sure many many people on here came from hot hatches originally. And no doubt many of us are thinking about the next stage in a few years time, whether that be a 911, or a TVR, or an RS6 or an M5 or whatever. Scoobs are bloody good cars, but they're not the be-all and end-all of performance motoring - there are plenty of drivers of even more desireable cars who no doubt look down their noses at Scoobies as agricultural vehicles.

I have to agree with the anti-cardigan brigade. Who cares if some more "chavs" buy scoobs. I'll still wave to them!

Proves even these so called "chavs" have some taste!

Yeah who gives a toss.

Also it's no wonder they're so cheap the amount imported is unbelivable, it gets to point where the market is at saturation, i.e. amount available outweights the demand hence the prices drop to appeal to a bigger market, unfortunatly the max power, bolt on goodie brigade.

I cant believe some of the younger drivers get insured on Jap imports, Even if they pay £3k for a early jap version, they end up paying £3k insurance, you might as well buy a decent uk spec Turbo 2000 and the rest can go on insurance. When I was 19 I had a MY00 UK turbo and insurance was'nt as bad as you would think for a group 17. ,

Newage cars seem to be cheaper on insurance then the classics though.

Oh, yes, there Cruise Babes section. Had to have a chuckle at that....

I still think there is something rather sinister about asking 16/17 year old girls that, though!

It doesnt matter how much you pay for your Scoob at the end of the day. I totally agree with peoples views on these idiots driving cars with no insurance, MOT, Tax etc. They should be hung drawn and quartered. But the way alot of you go on about Chavs all the time make me laugh. Its normally the Chavs as you put it that steal the cars...

What is it?? Lexus Lights, Dump Valves, Imported Car, Stickers, 4 different make tyres. Jesus the list is endless. Its going to be if you own a classic shape soon, Your a CHAV. You obviously lack some thing in your lives. Most of us buy Scoobs because we like them. We like all scoobs(nearly all anyway) Each to their own tastes I say. You have your scoob the way you want. I'll have my scoob the way I want. This is part of the fun of owning a scoob. Were all one big family but every car has its own character.

You dont see Chavs coming on here slagging off you Snobs all the time. You have obviously got too much time on your hands. Often when you see a Chaved up Scoob at least they normally wave or flash at you. Not like alot of the new age owners who simply look the other way when they see a Classic coming the other way. TW*TS (Sorry to all those new age owners that are ok)....

If you look at it this way all Porsche , Lotus, Tvr drivers etc probably think of you as Chavs in your brand new Scoob for £15000. Not alot of difference in price to a Ford Mondeo is there. If you dont like the stigma that goes with owning a sporty flash car, go buy yourself a Mondeo and stop Moaning and slagging people off.

Thats my rant over.. Sorry if ive gone on a bit. Just sick of the minority of Snobs on here slagging people off just cos they believe they fall into some group of people they have dreamed up....

Gangsta, my idea of a Chav isnt just someone in their early 20's with a baseball cap - YOU KNOW what a real Chav is ;0) - the sort of people ( who are generally under 20, have the baseball cap etc... ) who used to drill holes in their exhaust on their crap car to make it sound faster - the sort of people who look at a modded Corsa 1.0 in Max Power and think its a really cool car, the sort who spend more on the ICE than the whole car is worth.

Yes they do live on a council estate, have a 14 year old girlfriend who works part time in Mac D's, and most have the attitude that the world owes them a living.

I'm sure you had to work damn hard to afford £4K insurance - a proper Chav though wouldnt dream of working hard at anything other than dole fiddling, selling soapbar to his mates or shoplifting.

Chav doesnt just equal young person who dresses a certain way, 'its a way of life bra'

{and before you start, I'm not that much older than you, also wear Nikes - although not a baseball cap, and my jewelry doesnt come from Argos ! }

lol. Think is Burbary was actually a pretty high class fashion tag until it got labled with them.

I know nothing about football, but some couple, the lad is labled the chav of football? dont remember his name... Well all the big fashion companies got together with his missus to dress her and teach her how to wear things correctly because they were so scared that she would wear their brands and have what happened to the burbary name.

I feel sorry for the folks that set up burbary, from being once proud within a couple years having to put up with shocking media abuse.
