Cheap if you know the right people and buy with the essentials fitted i.e. filters, decat, ecu.
Standard front mount and gearbox can handle 500bhp easy, cant say the same for a scoob
In fact, I expect it would be cheaper to mod a skyline to 500 than it would a scoob

In short either that type r was supercharged, your mates astra is knackered or your mate has no limbs and tries to control his car through the power of the mind
As for what to get, get another scoob for now or I'm quite respectful of 200sx nissans... Just a thought... The astra is fantastically underated though btw...As fast off a roundabout (if not faster) than a standard 02wrx as I know to my cost...Cheers Bro

The Skyline is in no way a bugdet modifiable vehicle. Those that have done it will tell you they write 5 figure cheques to sort their cars...
They are also quite heavy so 500 BHP in one will not go like 500 BHP in a Subaru.

I went from Modified Impreza Type R to a Modified Supra 6speed TT. Totally different driving experience but both fun in there own ways.
Scoob was frantic with the close ratio box, but the Supra just stretches its legs and goes and goes and goes.
Unfortunately for me, good for anyone wanting to buy one!, the price of the Supra seems to be dropping due to all the dog rough ones that are being shipped in by the 100's but if you were to shop around there are some mint ones just waiting to be snapped up
Hope this helps

Didn't think R32's weighed an awful lot more than the newage scoobs?
Certainly an R33 is lardy when compared to a classic RA, guess I should have been more specific

Celica GT-Four ST205?
Can be picked up for about 5k for a L reg import these days. 250bhp out the box and easy and cheap to get to 300bhp.
Very stealth as they are rare enough that people dont know what they are

Went for a test drive in a chipped S3. Guess 270-280bhp. Very very impressive.
With prices dropping fast it is the only car I would consider a replacement for my Scoob if I had to.

Thankyou guys. some very good suggestions and to be honest each one is a good car in its own right. i shall have another think with these in mind and the opinions given on each one. *heads off to autotrader*

evos cost nrly twice as much when it comes to running, although they are the only thing that can be compared to a scoob. i rate what 'the big man is saying'!! e36 M3 evo coupe (NOT CONVERTIBLE) in estoril blue! much different to drive which might keep u occupied!! have heard they are mutant above 100mph on pull.... 321 horses suggests so! u get a much nicer interior and personally i have a thing about seats!!! the seats in the beemer are mint! Also i think civic type r's look proper slick!! and best engine & gear box in the world suggests careful consideration. just find a low miler if ur worried about it being ragged.... besides u wouldnt get any probs with it anyway...its a honda!!! fab little motors...nothing like a scoob though! its hard but u have to assess what it is u want from a car...if its performance then buy something rapid, if its to save u a few pennies then look at other options, ie nice interior, nice sound, nice to look at... things like that. M3 baby! its the way forward! RWD all the way!

get a megane 225, I was looking at scoobies but they arent really for me. They are quicker wrx pace as standard and you've got turbo tuning potential. FWD can be interesting though lol

The best thing is to decide what priorities you want from your next car, whether it is better fuel economy or performance say.
Whatever you choose their is not many cars that give you as good value for money as an Impreza.

Why the obsession with Skoda Fabia vRS's? Good car, but the Octavia vRS is an absolute bargain now, and is far better equipped than the Fabia and size wise is far closer to a Scooby. Not that I'm biased

Respected or classy.
Not the car's fault at all - I do like them (for what they are). Blame the owners, you'll find a majority of them in a local fast food outlet's car park.

Getting back to the subject though, what about a Skyline? May have been mentioned on page 2 as I haven't read every post, but a pretty good alternative I'd have thought. I have both and find it hard to say which I prefer to be honest. You should try one, as you can pick them up relatively cheaply just now. I might have one for sale shortly, still deciding what to keep.

Have to agree with John to a certain extent - Skylines can be expensive to mod, but it depends to what level you want to take it. To get 400/420bhp from a skyline is fairly straight forward and safe to do on standard components. When you get too far above that it can get expensive though. The R32 is the one to go for if you want speed as it's lighter, but not everyones cup of tea to look at and obviously a bit older too. Just depends what you want from the car I guess. Everyone should own a Skyline at least once in their lives though - IMHO !
