I came close to hydrolocking the engine in my last car (V6 mondy) nearly had a heart attack whent he garage quoted £6k + Labour + VAT for a new lump. Luckily they drained the oil, took the plugs out changed all the filter and such and everything started up Ok.
I'm very very careful with flood water now !!
Can't remeber the exact numbers now, but the RAC guy who helped me stated that BT had trashed an incredible number of vehicles a few winters ago, when we had bad floods.
Again according to RAC guy new aerodynamic shapes don't help as air intakes are postioned lower as well and diesels are worse due to high compression.
I don't know if any of that is true, but the £6k gave me a sleepless night or 2
Rgds
