High Definition TV .... just seen it, and .....

I saw HDTV in dixons, was absolutely blown away. It was a mountain scene; looked like I was looking through a window. You have to see it to believe it.
Decent HDTV's can be had for around £1000 for 32" LCD.

Yep - I saw HDTV at a comet super store. They had all the TVs lined up and from the front the HDTV stood out a mile. Then asked the salesman to switch it from the PC feed to a terrestrial station and the thing looked like a scene from white Xmas (it had then become the cappiest display of the lot).

But all tellys look good from a PC feed don't they? Had they just done this on the HDTV to plug it, being a new product and all that?
Are we saying that HDTV isn't worth it until transmissions are in the same format/quality?

Yep I also saw the Dixons HDTV demo special and it looked stunning. Didn't know anything about it but said to the Mrs that it looked like something off of a PC and not television. Looks like I was right then So its all a big sales pitch thats really a load of rubbish as you will get it home plug it in to the terrestrial aerial point and end up with a very expensive poor quality TV
I'll stick with my Tescos and Sainsburys specials for now (Wharfdale 28" widescreen and Lodos 28" widescreen that cost very little and the Wharfdale is still going strong after 6 years)

I have the 26 inch version of that and its pretty good, sounds a bit flat but I think its cos most people have surround anyway and the cabinets arent really big enough for massive speakers, the 32 is the same but bigger but also has more powerful sound.

Warfdale is a quality make IMO, granted theyre more audio based rather than visual but Ive never doubted any of their products....
Your right though Bravo, what you see being demo'd today as HDTV you wont be able to see or use as a product for another couple of years yet. Load of bull hyped up IMO, yes it'll be great when its released but it'll be a while yet before you can get it any other way than through sky which no doubt will be charging extorsionate amounts of money for (as they was for digital TV when that was first released )

I have been watching US HD films for nearly a year. Although as more and more channels appear, the quality has been going down eg. Matrix revolutions. the fight scene near the end with all the agent smith's, there was so much movement, the rain turned to big blocks ruined the film..
I expect the same thing to happen with SKY. they are already compressing the normal channels so much we loose most of the PQ.
Analogue sky had much better PQ. because sky couldnt compress the signals.
I just hope, that they don't mess up the HD-DVD's by adding so much rubbish they have to reduce the quality to fit it on. (like dvd's)

Same old story then - analogue fookin MILES better - audio and visual, but we're being fed digital as the "must-have" new technology. Bring back valves
