So a LCR is quicker than a standard WRX up a dual carriageway or some straight road. Who gives a ****? I'm taking my WRX PPP to the Isle Of Mull to watch one of the greatest closed road rallies in the World. If any Seat drivers would care to challenge me on the roads to this event (the style for which Imprezas were built), I'll gladly accept, but they better make sure their are like "Buster Gonad and his Unfeasably Large *********".
Oh, incidentally, I'm not in IT, drive and test fast cars for a living, and then compete in Motorsport at weekends
Drive and test fast cars for a living, i guess its only natural to wanna drive a pretend rally car during the week then.

even the slowest of the production scoobs (bug wrx) is quicker than Seat Leons quickest factory cars. 30-70mph the slowest Scoob does it in 5.8secs and the quicker ones in 4.8secs. Compare that the Leons finest @ 6.0secs. And that is using figures from the weakest area of the Subaru (mid range, rolling).

Its not even worth mentioning standing starts, grip or twists.

The Leons are v good FWD cars, and yes they would be comparable with the slowest scoobs from midrange...I wouldnt go as far as saying a LCR is quicker than the slowest of scoobs midrange though as the figures suggest otherwise.

Bob
LOL Bob, you and your figures that mean nothing! A clio with 170bhp will push along a WRX, never mind a Cupra R with 225.

There are videos of clio sports beating tuned classics up a 1/4 mile! Do i really need to get them out and embarrass you all?

Says it all really! Dont know where you got these figures from bob? Were they for the 210bhp car? I think you'll find they are

Face it a WRX is not a quick car. Isn't this what this threads about?

I'd rather drive a pretend Rally car (that has road holding and safety for when my wife's driving it with my daughter in it) that a skitterish souped up Polo.
I thought you had signed off and gone to check out if your website was back up and running anyway.

hmmm yeah he is kinda right there, a standard 01 wrx isnt that quick really, can be with minimal mods tho, it would take some cupra to beat an STi Type R on a drag strip though buddy!

You cant be serious about taking on a 350bhp FWD 1100kg ibiza in a 330bhp 1250kg 4wd impreza. You'd get demolished mate! This car pushes along 4.5 cerberas FFS!

True mate, in the 0-60 dash 4wd is always going to be a winner but i do believe he challenged a 30-130 with an IHI ibiza!

OK, OK, right that's it. Time to bring out the big gun!!

ME MAXED 1.2. CORSA BUST YOU ALL GOOD! ITS GOT A DUMP VALVE, INNIT!

The Facts:

A Std Bugeye IS faster than A cupra R 225.
A Classic is faster than both.
A Cupra 225 can be made faster than a Bugeye in a straight line
A Bugeye can be made faster than a Cupra 225 in a straight line
The Bugeye WILL always be better than the Cupra in the bends- simple traction and grip advantage afforded by the 4wd and relatively low centre of gravity.
If it rains: Game set and match Scooby.

You pays your money you take your choice.

im pretty local and i think i would take up that challange, boost on my car has been knocked down a little due to dodgy maf but im sure my 215bhp would be alright as it has 242lbs

Road tests (e.g. EVO, Top Gear) consistently point to the Bugeye having the faster 0-60 (no surprises there) and 30-70 (where 4wd is not longer an advantage) times. Is the latter enough to be noticable in the real world? ... no, it'd be a case of who was in the right gear and got their foot down first. BUT the fact of the matter is that by objective measures, the Bugeye IS faster.

Throw in twisties especially when adverse conditions come into play and its the Scooby all the way I'm afraid.

That's not to say the Leon Isn't a very good car -it is- especially when value for money is considered, but sometimes I think their owners are just as guilty of the "underdog invincibility complex" that afflicts some Scooby drivers!

In fact evo have the car timed 30-70 in 5.5secs and thats for the 225 version. Bob has quoted autocar and 30-70 of the 210 version!

With a remap that 5.5secs comes drastically down and at a guess well under 5secs!

Im just trying to hunt the group test where they pitted a wrx against a cliosport and the cliosport come out on top. It was in evo around a year ago! I want to see the bugeye in gear times as i'd put my house on it that a cupra r has a quicker mid range.

Anyway this thread is not about whats faster as the thread starter has already confirmed this

Guys no-one is doubting the impreza is a cracking car! Its just not as quick as some people are led to believe! Yes i'd rather have 1 in the wet/in the twisties and for traffic light G.P's but its image is at rock bottom due to the lexus light max power brigade getting there greasy mits on them

Well to be fair Mitchy, the LCR is so good that I almost had one until the idiot of a salesman told me that in no way, shape or form could I have discount on one (paying cash!), so I went along to a Subaru garage a month later who gave me around 7-8% discount and I shook on a deal within 30 mins. The really sad bit of me quite likes when people admire the looks of the WRX (it does have the STi wing and PFF7's), and young boys ask the good ol' "How fast is it Mister?". I don't think I would have got that with a LCR. But at least I can reply now "Well apparently a chipped LCR is quicker"

You could probably find videos of Puntos beating Ferraris but whats the point? Are you saying a std 'clio sports' IS faster than a tuned classic on the 1/4mile or that it can be if you have someone doing granny launches vs full bore launches/shifts?

Figures are referenced

Only figures to hand were for the 210bhp model (I didnt know there were different Rs)

That's the funny thing. All this talk of beating a car or wanting to be as quick as a car that actually isnt quick.

Hi all,

This is my first post on here, although I have been a voyeur on here for some time now and a member since mid-August.

As my name suggests, I drive a LCR. It's an 05 reg, minimal miles at present and completely standard. I like it a lot. My opinions?

Well, Craig, if you only bought the Impreza to impress young boys then I am quite worried. A bag of sweets should do the trick! I talk from experience that my motor gets a lot of looks and I work with kids aged 11-16 who are car-crazy. They all love cars, they play the games, watch pimp my ride etc. and they all comment on how cool the car is. Fair enough, it doesn't have that rally-bred image of the Scoob, but in essence, this is part of the fun (as the initial poster on here found out!). I like the look of the Leon, quite mean, nice red brakes, way more powerul than the Audis but it is also not as in your face of other vehicles. It's nice when little Saxo boys or barry BMW wants to race and gets blown away.

The truth be told, if I could sell up now and get a new car, I would love a Scoob. Before I hit 200BHP plus, I drove a 1.4 and I went out in a friend's WRX (a member on this very forum!) It was a fantastic drive and I came away really impressed. I doubt I would go for the WRX as I have played with a few of them in my LCR and they don't stand much of a chance. I would ultimately want a Prodrive, WR1 or something special but the insurance won't touch me (aged 22) on even a standard WRX so I've no chance on the greater models.

I do miss the AWD that a Scoobie would give, having just come from a Quattro Audi S3, but handling? This 4WD talk is nonsense. Sure, my old S3 had grip but there is a difference between grip and handling. Ok, 225 horsies is a lot to handle in the wet. I wish I didn't live in rainy Manchester, but when the sun shines and the roads are dry, it's pretty damn good. handling is good. You have to drive the LCR without blinking, you have to be on the ball but it's well worth it. Straight line speed is very good. Midrange is excellent and it's very quick in gear. I've raced a friend in his S3 and he was surprised that a pulled a distance quite quickly on him. I'm not going to chat ****, I didn't "blow him away", but I pulled on him and for a car with 2,000 miles on the clock it served me well. A remap would really make this car fierce competition.

I think we all need to stop saying our car is the fastest thing ever to hit the road. There's always something faster....

MY LCR!

Only joking!

What challenge, i have demolished all who tried so far the links prove that ,the ones who have tried have had there ****'s handed to them on a plate. You can talk qtr mile's 0-60mph, ten of the best but in real world conditions under normal real world driving situations they all lost. Sti's, tuned classics, wrx's with PPP. How can you argue with threads started by scooby owners who have said they were done.

Buts lets face it, you have taken the bait once again and are sat at your computers raging about being beaten by a Lcr. This is where the diff lies in our feelings on the subject, i dont care if a scoob, Evo, Nova, Saxo, Clio beats me, because if it does then he/she has done the ground work on the car to be able to do it. I look forward to being out dragged its what made me modify in the 1st palce and its what will make me go on, maybe with this car maybe not. Fact is scoobs aint that quick in wrx form this thread proves it.

You guys should really not get so wound up, and just say whatever. Lcr beats scoob.......so what. Tomorrow scoob beats Lcr...so what. But you should burst your bubble and look outside Scoobs get beaten everyday, there are not unbeatable.

I must admit I do like the Leon Cupra R's....they look fantastic!!

But I also love my Black STI PPP with 305 gee gee's

I know I can't beat every car on the road and I don't try, I'm happy with my car and the size of my ****

If RR kicks my *** in his modded Ibiza then fair do's, my STI is still standard as out of the box, apart from the PPP so I'm sure a heavily modded car can whip my butt

This thread has made good reading though

P.s RR where abouts in Teeside are you from, I live in Liverpool but I'm a monkey hanger I managed to escape 6 years ago though

Who the hell comes on here and makes out that they ARE unbeatable? the wrx is 215 bhp ffs. the new age wrx's are in comparison to say..the cupra of the curpra R family. the slightly less able..the slightly tamer..and obviously NOT highest performance model in the range.after the amount of cars i have had i certainly know there are faster cars out there than a bone stock wrx 02 bugeye!!

it is still very very amusing that people in Seats or *add car make here* have to go out and try to prove they have bought a car that is capable by tuning the guts out of it just so they can say down the pub ''i beat a scooby tonight''. oh how the lads must cheer!!(before buying another round of alchopops)

I did myself go to buy a cupra R. but after numerous walks around the car ..much thinking..sleeping on the matter and then waking around it again..as much as i liked the recaros..the build of the car and the front end..the rear is to dumpy and 4 doors has never really appealed to me in a hatchback. always reminds me years ago of the guyin my street with the xr4i trying to make it look like an rs500

and this isnt a knock at the owners..but i thought it wasnt that fast.perhaps it was the smoothness of the power.but there was no massive turbo surge and it was all very muted in comparison to the kick of a scoob. oh and the ovni yellow paint was dale winton. other than that..nice car.
