My insurance payed out after 3 weeks of getting my Evo stolen. I did call them everyday though, making sure they had everything. They tryed to make out that the car was on finance which it wasn't. Then they lost all the paper work, but they gave me what I paid for it minus the excess. Not a nice experiance to go though. When I then said I was going to replace the car with another Evo they really got nervous and started to demand locked alarmed garage and stuff.
So I change insurance companys.
Sound like a carbon copy of what happened to me, what with finding the wallets and purse just down the street.

Police said it was a gang from Bradford, which I think they caught some of them and found cars in containers but not mine.
I think the worst thing was nowing that someone had been in the house whilst we where a sleep upstairs. *******s.

Im pleased you were all unhurt and hope matters are quickly resolved.

Pete, stolen to order mate, ask yourself do you really want it back after they have had it.

I take it you didnt have a tracker fitted because the car will have been parked up within 3-5 miles of you and left for 24 hours at least to see if it gets picked up, if not, then away it goes.

It will be on false plates by now and sold on to some unsuspecting idiot who thinks he's got a straight Impreza on the cheap.

My mate had is Evo 6, stolen of his drive, by thieves who had the car picked up and put onto the back of a lorry, neigbours didnt think anything of it, so didnt do anything, they ended up finding the car a month later in Manchester stripped of its panels, interior, engine, gearbox etc.

Hi Ian

Thats what i think, they left so much behind including mobile phones, they did just want the car. Yes it was trackered but because they had the keys there was no alert to RAC. RAC said the last movement of the car was 3.30am and since then, nothing.

I really did think that RAC could "ping" the car to find out where it was but seemingly not

If the car turned up within say 6 hrs then yeah i'd love it back but the longer it goes the more i know it will be more miles away or just reduced to a shell

Obviously, you didn't hear them come into the house or start the car so do they push the car away from the house so that it doesn't wake you up?

Yes they pushed the car away to around the corner

They got through the extension window, probably the furthest point away from any bedroom and yes very quiet indeed

Bad luck mate, sorry to hear about this. Mine got nicked in 2002, and to be honest you really don't want it back; I got mine back- found it in Wavertree after being chased 3x by the Police, apparently undamaged but it was never the same and had three replacement motors in a short space of time afterwards.

Keep your chin up, and start thinking about what to buy when the insurance money comes through. Get a saab like me, no-one can nick it 'cos its broken down already......

I know it's probably no concilation but someone a friend of mine knows had three masked men smash through his front door at three in the morning shouting and threatening for him to give them the keys to his new Evo 8. He said his kids were screaming, his wife was screaming, they were screaming back, a real nightmare by the sound of it.

For those people saying what you'd do if you could get hold of them, I don't think you probably understand what type of people you're dealing with. Most of these aren't young lads after a joy ride, they're organised gangs with links to all sorts, not the kind of fella's you want to cross, no matter how big you are. No car is worth serious injury or worse, if someone comes for my car they can take it, it's well insured, in fact I hope I don't sound arrogant but I think I'd tell them to make sure I wasn't getting it back and then go back to bed till morning!

While what you say is v.true if someone stole my car(pride and joy!!) i would do anything to get revenge!!!! but i know it would be a bad move...

Which is why you have to be smarter then me buzzer!!! just keep on till your insurance pays out and get yourself a replacement(new insurance company if needed)

I would also recomend a better alarm system (like the one with a remote that can turn off the car, then let the ****ers get far enough away that you aren't in danger and kill the car...hopefully outside a police station)

Exactly the same thing happened to me, they pushed it off the drive before they started it (de cat exhaust = loud). I phoned RAC Trackstar up 6 hours later, (the time between the car being stolen and me finding out) and they couldn't ping it either. What a waste of time that was. They never did find it.

Now I have 2 trackers and an anti highjack system.

Police did say that they look at forums like this to get info. Just becareful.

Im not surprised. If this "gang" was organised as they say then coming onto this forum and pretending to be a friendly fellow scooby owner is probably the first thing they would do. Its a little un-nerving knowing that they would have been watching their victim(s) movements (in a kind of police styled stake-out) before committing the crime.

The Police told the lad my friend knows, that these 'gangs' sit around town and motorway junctions etc.. on Saturday and Sunday watching for cars that are out and about, follow the car home to see where it lives then come back that night or whenever and take it. Like I said they literally kicked his front door in at three in the morning, it sounded pretty traumatic to me.

I have been the victim of an armed robbery attempt in the early hours from sc#mbags trying to nick my new car, but believe me you dont have time to think 'well let them have it', the fight or flight instinct kicks in and i fought, not entirely the right thing to do but the 5 guys gave up before i did and fled, 1 nursing a snooker cue handle to the head.

If they get in and dont disturb you then i suppose in a way thats better than having to defend your castle.

RAC pinged my car for fun a few months ago when I challenged gthe fact that I was paying for a service that I didnt know I was receiving...
Amazed they wont do it for others, maybe Im special
If they broke into mine for the keys they could have it... I leave the keys downstairs for that very reason. Its insured and its just a car... Would love to see there faces though when the blackjaxx kicks in though... Oh to see their ears bleed

Gutted for you mate.

There's something in the Manchester Evening News tonight about an armed and masked pair who stole a WRX last night. It's on page 3 if I remember correctly.

You can't have anything can you?! *******s.

sorry to hear of your loss, I think people are right when they say you don't really want it back now. You dont know what it may have been used for in the meantime.
Good luck with the insurance company too.
Is it just me, or are trackers a waste of time? In this age of key theft, what is to stop the thief taking your car with no alarm?
I think blackjax is the only answer in that case.

chris.

i hate the winkers, its seriously making me think about selling up and having a more 'normal' car rather than my pride and joy. I dont want no a55hole holding a shotgun to my window asking for the car. I aint no wimp, but having that done to you would scare the crap out of you i reckon.
I pass on my regards to the people have had there motors taken and hope everyone is ok and it gets sorted.
I'm looking into the trackstar thing whre horn & lights go etc and cuts out?
is it like the blackjaxx but better at attracting attention?
also thinking of pepper spray, baseball bat and other things to keep in the car.
do others carry weapons for 'self defence'?

Thankyou everyone who has commented and especially those who have pm'd me with support and help and advice. Those that know me have texted me and rang me with support because they know there is a little more to all this than just a car theft where my mum and dad have been subjected to a horrific crime because of me having a decent car parked in the drive. I cant begin to express the warmth i have felt from the people who have texted, pm'd and rang me because of whats happened to me over the last few weeks (you know who you are) Scoobynet if nothing else has brought me close to so many people in the last 4 years or so and it amazes me how many people i recieved pm's and calls from offering help and sympathy. I know that the car probably wont come back but i really do take solice in the thought of a good wholesome cummunity spirit that exists in scoobynet. I want to dispell the myth of owning a scoob results in theft, this isnt the case, i had my scoob for 4 years and not a single incident but sadly it just came and hit me like a ton of bricks at a time when i least needed it but hey c'est la vie, life goes on.

Neil, you sent me a touching pm and YHPM re: the docs app. no worries mate !

Once again this is a good community and i've enjoyed most of it and i want thank all the chaps and chaplettes for their pm's, texts and phone calls which have helped. Yes there is a bigger picture than just the theft and i appreciate your heartfelt sincerity.

Things will work out, they always do dont they ?
