The Result!:
The MD said he would be upholding the managers decision and that he agreed with him. I have 3 days to appeal.
He also said they may be moving me to another team to see if i can meet the targets of other things they make. The union guy asked me how i felt about moving teams after, i said that if im still booked then its no better. He said give me ten minutes and ill go and see the foreman about moving you and ill come back to you. I saw him talking to him and the foreman shaking his head! He never did come back to me!

I wouldnt just leave,i would fight and make them realise what they have done, make them liable for the pay out you deserve.Pay out will depend upon the length of your service to them.Big companies still dont learn form such tribunals etc and carry on behaving badly to other employees. But you dont just go quietly mate. You do have rights and you need to make them realise what you deserve.
If you have been a good employee to them and the manager has just got it "in" for you, just know it's their loss, not yours if you are gone.
All the best mate.

Ok, final decision:
I received a letter this morning saying my final warning was being upheld.
Theres no point going to the main MD to appeal as it is pretty obvious what the out come will be.
I will be taking all your advice on here and handing my notice in due to constructive dismisal.
Thanks!

Hope it works out for you one way or another - one thing you didnt mention was are they saying people can do a job to the same level of quality as you, but in a shorter time, or do you take longer because you are doing it properly ?
I know a lot of companies now just want to lash something together and get it out the door asap to get the money in rather than make sure they are making something that will last.
If you are much better than others at welding, you need to look for work somewhere where they appreciate quality rather than quantity ( easily said I know, but small specialist companies are more likely to take this attitude ).

Yeah, some people can do the job in the time. Example is if one preson does a job in a certain time they will bring the target down to that stating that its possible to do it in that time. They even agree that some times a bad (stupid i know!)
I wouldnt say that i was much better than everyone else. Im by no means one of the bests welders but im certainly not one of the worst. Theres some really rough stuff that people do that gets passed off.
I wont be pursuing this career and i am thinking of going back to college.

mate the same sort of thing happened to me when i was working in a timber yard down the road. eventually i left but before i did i worked late one night and put a newspaper in the fuel tank of each of the lorries.
about 3 months later none of the lorries would move and each had to have the fuel tank flushed and some had the fuel lines replaced.
as it was so long after i had gone no one suspects me, and i had my laugh.

As soon as you have walked you will wonder why you ever put up with all the hassle.
Hope it all goes welll for you.
My advise would be to hand your notice and walk before they can action the Final warning, they cannot hold it on your record until you have acepted it it and signed for it.
Good luck with the future. And I hope the factory burns down LOL

Marc, I second the advice about getting professional advice before you resign. The way you resign can have consequences about what happens later. Talk to someone to make sure you do it the "right" way.

Right little update.
I am now appealing to the MD, i know it wont get me anywhere but the union guy is insisting we do it this way. He even admitted that it wouldnt get us anywhere. He said if nothing comes of it then he will go to the union secetary and again said this wouldnt get us anywhere and said he didnt know what i could do after this.
I have written a statement off my own back and havnt told the union guy and asked some of my work collegues to sign it, out of the 12 i asked only 5 were prepared to sign it Those that wouldnt sign agreed with what i was doing and sypathised but basically **** themselves when i mentioned that i would be sending this statement to the union personally along with copies of my reports. Some of the excuses i got were unbelievable. Just goes to show how cowardly some people are when someone makes a stand.
