There is nothing wrong with the Cross of St George or what it really stands for/signifies.
As for the numb nuts's that harp on about how bad the British have been throughout history and we should hang our heads with shame and hide our flag away.
I am not responsibile for the things that happened in the past. I know of them and understand them and i would never let them happen again.
We the English are the same in that respect as s many other nations and races have an 'ugly' past.
Learn from the mistakes and move on - not making them again!

It seems that you are all now having a go at me and make up any stupid argument to cover your anger at the SGC being seen as a racist symbol. I don't like this situation as much as anyone else, but I least I don't stick my head in the sand and deny it.

I do not see the St George's Cross or the Union Jack flags as being racist. I think it is disgusting that we are not allowed to display the flags the represent our country and nation for fear of upsetting those of other nations, who happen to be living in the UK.
We should all be able to display whatever flags we wish. I really don't care if some ethnic chappy is upset by seing our flag in our country, tough *******, go somewhere else if you don't like it. How would you feel if we came your country and you were then told you could not display your flag for it would upset us?
Can anyone imagine the USA saying that due to the fact that some people could be offended by it, the good ol Stars and Stripes could not be displayed anymore by citizens. Methinks there would be a tiny little outburst, and I think we should do the same in the UK.

Not sure what you are saying.
Are you saying that the far right will attack me or just ordinary English people or someone else.
TBH i have no desire to walk down the street with the cross of St George held aloft.
I did displayed one in the car during the fottie and other big sporting events along with the week of St Georges day until it faded and i removed it. I also wear a poppy with pride as well as a mark of respect for those who fell defending the country
I had a large flag hung outside the house during the World Cup and European cups, in fact after i put mine out several others appeared in the same street coincidence or people just realising it is OK to do so not just the relm of the yob don't really mind, the main thing is they where there
It is easy to let the symbol be hijacked, too easy. More people should be proud to display it.
Put it another way if 10,000 peace loving people from all walks of life ages, races, religions and backgrounds walked down Southall high street handing out cossses of St George to all comers would there be a riot, who would cause it?
It only becomes the domain and property of scum like c18 if you let it do so.

I really don't think saying the SGC is racist is helping the issue. ![Frown](images/smilies/frown.gif)
If anything it's making it worse as it makes the English people more resentful as they feel their identity is being 'taken away'.
I wish these people would stop skirting around the issue
- there should be zero tolerance on racism. End of.
I wasn't around then, but 30 odd years people didn't give 2 hoots if someone drank and drove - now it is seen as a terrible and immoral thing to do and the people who do it are ostracised by 99% of society - this is how we need to start treating racists.

Are all the people at the Last Night Of The Proms racist? They sing Jerusalem as well. Must be double racists then.

Displaying it innapropriately may well be. Its the innapropriate displaying of the symbol that is the issue here, not the flag itself.

Any flag is a symbol that could be considered racist or devisive, it says I belong to this and you dont, we may invade, convert you or beat you at football and this lets you know we are coming, same as gang colours, football shirts, tribal warpaint or the sign of the cross.
People need to belong to something, identify with something and once that need is satisfied its time to sort out some other group, i.e. the Football, Crusades, Chelsea Headhunters, suicide bombings, its just degrees of the same thing, some more sporting than others.
The Englang national flag is being hijacked a bit, I dont think C18 and the NF are the major abusers, its the more good natured ones putting a few bits of red tape on the bonnet of a white Transit during the world cup, thats just crap. I dont think most people worry about it, fairly sure most Muslims couldnt give a toss (especially if people buy them from their shop at 4.99) and Ramadan has started so I dont think they will have the energy. Maybe its a white racist plot to over pc everything so the average Daily Mail reader gets whipped up into a frenzy of righteous indignation ?

To be honest. The self appointed moral crusaders that worry about the Racist connotations of a national flag have too much time on their hands. I often wonder if they have nervous breakdowns over every little thing.
They're so busy wondering about what might happen that they completely miss the fact that 99% of the population dont give a monkeys.

I could not believe what that stupid woman said, if I was a prison officer I would find a badge twice as big and wear it! She needs a boot up the ****.
Stuff the BNP and the hooligans, they should have no effect whatsoever on the use of our country's flag.

There's a fine line between healthy patriotism and racism. Most of us are able to distinguish the difference; a few small minority groups sadly are not, and bastardise the national emblem for their own agendas. Seems pretty clear cut to me.

I work in Germany and am the only Brit in my team of 7 germans and I have a 5 foot St George cross behind me and also a little one on my monitor and a union flag on my other monitor, there is not a German flag in the building!!!! we also have Irish flags and various scandinavian flags on peoples desks, no one here bats an eyelid. Some take the **** and ask if I work for the red cross but that is only in jest.
