You needn't worry, Royal Pythons rarely grow far beyond 6 feet!

They're also generally very placid and friendly- can be buggars to feed though.

AFAIK, feeding snakes live prey in the UK is illegal -stand to be corrected- not good practice though, as you'll be surprised at the damage a rabbit or even a rat can do to a snake if it gets a chance to use its teeth. That's why they strike for the head area and coil around the prey so quickly.

Davgtt- A considerably smaller snake than the one that had a go at that aligator could kill, though not eat, a human mate. You wouldn't believe how strong they are!!

It is possible the alligator 'came to', after being swallowed as they can hold their breath for ages by reducing their metabolism down to virtually nothing.

The largest captive snake in the world was a female Burmese python called 'Baby' . She was nearly 27 foot long and weighed 29 stone!

Here she is with her former owner before he rehoused her at Serpent Safari in Illinois.

Unfortunately, last I heard, she died of a respiratory infection, to which they are susceptible.
****, you'd need some chips to go with that !!!!

Mojo is doing great, she's completely mite clear now and in her new vivarium. She's in the middle of a shed at the moment so is moody as hell, her eyes/skin has just cleared so I expect the peel to start in the next 6-7 days.

Here she is as of 10 mins ago!

She looks great. Any estimate of size? Coils is about to shed any day now...he hasn't got [steve Irwin on] a little bit grumpy [/steve Irwin off] though which im surprised about. Maybe thats just the difference between a Burm and a dwarf BCI. I have kept his last shed which was complete...i guess for the non snake keepers out there it is the equivalent of your childs first tooth...

Not quite a python-keeping comment but may be of interest. I remember hearing of a tale - I thought it was in the Amazonian rain forest - of an Anaconda trying to down a helicopter.

Anyway, I think I've sourced the story :

"Colonel Rene van Lierde was piloting his helicopter over the Katanga province of the Belgian Congo. Suddenly a gigantic snake reared up as if to attack his helicopter. He lifted up and took several photos of the snake and continued his journey. His estimate of the size of the snake was about 40-50 feet, and that is the same estimation made by zoologists who later examined the photo. Even still, the largest scientifically measured snake was a 32 foot long reticulated python killed in Indonesia as the world's longest snake. Until one of these magnificent creatures is brought in, dead or alive, the Sucuriju will always be known as a cryptid."

Apparantly Anaconda can grow as large as at least 70 feet. See :

http://www.cryptozoology.com/cryptids/anaconda.php

A weird web page but a good laugh.

Mojo is about 7'6" now!

That's a good sign Coils shed in one piece, especially since the mite problem. As you know, when I got Mojo she also had mites and was quite dehydrated. Her first shed was a disaster, it was like snake-druff, all cripsy and dry and I had to soak most of it off in the bath tub!

Since then they have been getting steadily better, the last one she was able to get 90% off herself, so I have high hopes for this one! I have a humidifier going in the vivarium and the RH is at about 85% which should help!
