You need to have dreams, easy dreams, achievable dreams and fly to the moon dreams. You need to see each one for what it is..... easy dream - have two kids.... biology aside this doesn't take too much planning and effort. Achievable (sp??) dream - have two kids who are confident, happy, clever and likeable (should probably add a burberry clause) - you can do this is you are a realist. I think this is where I am at. Fly to the moon dream - have two kids who are all the above and discover how to power the entire universe on daisy sap - look after dream two and you never know.
I suppose a different way to look at it.... would you rather be loaded and sad or poor and happy? Unfortunately our present society has us believe that only material stuff can make you happy - in reality material stuff can give us some enjoyment, but it wont change your outlook on life.
I personally wouldn't change anything. I love my wife and kids to bits. I also have lots of material posessions. If any of the three of them became sick tomorrow I would sell all the material gumph to buy a cure. Certainly I strive to have better and be better - it would be pretty crap if you thought you had reached the high point in your life, but you also need to appreciate what you have and what you have had

Based on my own experience, having almost died on a number of occasions, i learnt to appreciate life more, and as a result changed my whole outlook, to the point where I would have been happy if I died tomorrow
I hadnt reached the high point in my life, as there was and still is, many many things that I havent done or achieved that I would like to, some far more impossible than others, for one reason or another
I still would be happy with my life if i went now, but for the odd small bit, that I still havent done, that I really want to
On saying all that, most of the time, I couldnt give a monkeys if I did die tomorrow, mainly due to the fact that I am (and have been for many many years now) no longer scared of dying, but I still make sure I enjoy things as much as I can

I could not complain, I had a job which I loved every minute, and got around the world as well.
I think however that we usually look forward to the next good thing that may happen in the future rather than what we did in the past.
As Ben said, "count your blessings" has a lot to be said for it.
