It was indeed near the Mazda dealers!
The colour was like the old metallic blue, I forget the name (Lagoon?) but it reminded me of our old Eunos, and got me a bit giddy.

Agree with many - MX5 a better car than Scoob. I had two - a used 1.6 MkI and then a new 1.8i Mk 1 (in 1997), in British Racing Green. Total quality - and great fun, given the 1.8 base model had no power steering - when men were men and all that. Did the dirty and did what was one of the first supercharger conversions on it in 1998 (warranty - hah!) which I imported from the US and the car went from 130 bhp to about 180 bhp and was stunning to drive. No lag, and while noisier at lower speeds, you couldn't hear it at higher speeds, yet max boost was at about 2,000 rpm - which was 80mph in 5th IIRC - floor it on the motorway and it just pulled like mad. That is a car I miss and would love to do it all over again actually.

Sod the opinion polls about hairdressers cars - most think Scooby's are chav cars and we still drive them so... Not to worry Pete - get one. They look better now as well.

When the nipper arrived, we went from a 2-car family to a 1-car. MX5 Mk1 (wife' s) and integrale 16v (mine) became wrx wagon. I really miss those days.

the MX5 had:
Crappy plastic rear window that remained misted all through the winter. But some powerful heaters for winter hood down motoring.
Special tool required to get at the oil filter I remember (under the mainfold) :-(
A gnat's breath slower than my old golf gti 16v Mk2, but much quicker through the corners, and strangley felt quicker - coz your outside right?

I did like the Mx5 (but don't tell the wife), no problems in 2 years, overall speed isn't what they are about, it's sunny - flies in the teeth motoring, specially if like me, you sit above the top of the windscreen.

Stepping from the sure-foot 4wd to the lightweight rwd could be interesting on wet corners though. Concentration required.

Be able to test drive one soon!!!!

If I like it is anyone in the market for the best MK1 MX5 you can buy, as mine will be up for sale!!

I know they are easy to sell, but may as well ask here first.

Hmmmmm, yes - I thought about that ....... trouble is, doing 2000miles a year in the 2 seater its hard to justify £18000 ... let alone £30k+!!

Small matter of 15 grand price difference (nearer 20, if you deceide to spec up the Boxster)

Its a MX5 ....................... not an Eunos!!

The Eunos cannot be called a MX5 - some dealers call them MX5s to justify a UK price ..... but the tackiness of the JDM car always shows through!!
