Absolutely.

When on the pavement the onus isn't on the pedestrian to 'look out' for or 'easily hear so as to avoid' a sodding cyclist.

It is the cyclists onus to f*ck off the pavement and cycle properly on the road FFS

Hang on a minute, cars and trucks are much noisier than bikes. Why don't we put them on the pavement since they will be so easy to hear and spot. Then the Cyclists will be safe on the road too

Agreed with Jay M A!

When you do motorbike training you are s'posed to ride defensively against the 'moron car drivers' - cyclists should be on the road doing the same. cars are bigger than me and i want to live, so assume the guy in the car turning right will do so and i'd be stupid to overtake him on the right riding my bike/motor cycle!

car drivers use your mirrors. if lorry drivers didn't use their mirrors cars would be in a lot of trouble on a daily basis (and btw, i know a few truckers and when they squished you out of a lane, they did see u ).

lastly. cyclists stay off the feckin pavement. i don't care what the statistics are, the adult cyclist has more sense to ride safely and stay alive on the road than my 5 year old has to hear/look out and avoid said adult cyclist on the pavement. there's no excuse for it. they should be on the road.

It's been quite a while since I rode a cycle on the road and even longer since I took my cycling proficiency test (do kids still do that?) but clearly from your description Sticky, that particular cyclist was certainly in the wrong.

The worrying point though is that should the incident have lead to an injury or insurance claim on behalf of the cyclist (and perhaps it still might), the insurance co would likely find in favour of the cyclist.
I would report the incident to the police if I were you.

I do see quite a few examples of "nutter cyclist" behaviour, but they're not all like that. There's plenty of car / truck / bus drivers who are just as bad or worse...

Pedestrians too can be inconsiderate road users - how many times do you see people exercising the good old "I've now put a foot on the road, so I shall cross it as casually and nonchalently as possible and it's up to the motorised road users to take responsibility for my safety" principle?

Just for clarity, that doesn't mean I ride on the pavement!
I meant, it's been quite a while since I rode a cycle full stop.

I saw one of these idiots was parked in the middle of a BOX junction. ****** NO1.

Why dont these cyclists pay ROAD TAX? What about Insurance? If the issue with Road TAX is how will one monitor it, then atleast the insurance for PERSONAL injury MUST be enforced.

Cyclists should never use the pavement and they should be legally responsible for their actions on a bike.

Ill admit i ride on the exceptionally wide pavement round mine as well as the cycle paths but id rather do that than risk my life with ***** in nova 1.2s with 3" exhausts trying to cause you hassle by sitting 1 inch off your rear. HOWEVER I am careful, courtious and I stop/slow down when my judgement tells me I should. Yes i break the law, but rather that than my neck.

If you were riding your Raleigh racer on the pavement I was walking on you would run the risk of getting my arm crutch in your front wheel!

Yep, that'd be a result, but tbh I'd settle for maiming

Contrary to popular opinion cyclists do NOT own the roads, they don't even have to pay to use them

And don't get me started on the organised road racing tw@ts, riding three or four abreast, that clog up all the main roads in this area on summer evenings

Why should the wheel size make any difference?

LOL... cycle on the road and cars try to run you over and call you a menace, cycle on the footpath and them very same people who moan about you whilst driving have ago at you for being in your way....

To be fair I dont think cyclists should pay road tax, after all theyre not damaging the roads or environment. Personally, I ride my bike where ever it suits, down the high street I'll cycle on the road becuase theres so many pedestrians about, if its a busy road and a quiet footpath I'll get on the footpath, your damned if you do and damned if you dont. so I dont give two hoots aslong as I ride in a safe manor I dont give a sh!te what anyone elses opinion on the subject is

Now Horses on the road... dont get me started

Wheel size makes a difference, because if your wheels arent over 18" you dont have to ride on the road. Would you want your little kid riding on the road with people like crisPDuc and OllyK on it

Woah, hold on a minute, I have nothing against cyclists, so long as they show respect and consideration for other road users As with most things in life, it is the behaviour of the arrogant few who get my back up

Thumbs up

Well **** me for I be a Subaru owner who rides bikes, sometimes on the pavement ...
When you do anything in life you are (sometimes without knowing) carrying out a risk assessment - working out what is safest. When you're driving it may be to decide on whether to overtake or pull out etc. When you're cycling though your forever having to consider what is safest for you as so many car/bus/truck drivers give no thought to you at all.
This means there are times where I will hop on a pavement, eg narrow busy road, queuing traffic too close to the kerb blocking my path, cars parked on either side of a road for a stretch with oncoming cars etc...
Its common sense for me to do this and reduce the likelyhood of my inevitable death.
Keyboard warriors rattling on about hitting push iron folk for pavement hopping are talking rubbish, and living in a 'keyboard warrior world' where Pokemon characters are their usual adversary.
In the case that started the thread the cyclist was incorrect and should have stopped to discuss his error
Riding two a breast or not using lights when dark is asking for trouble and I too pay these numpties no respect.
Hopping on a pavement however... Absolutely tip top... In keyboard warrior stylee I cant wait to meet one of you guys on a pavement near me
