Compression ratio, octane, gearbox, clutch, traction and intercooling are the big limitations, otherwise you could make peak power really early and hold it near its peak almost as soon as you can get the turbo to spool up.
If that is indeed the case that RS isnt making the power the owner think it does or the WRX is making more than standard HP as I can't see a WRX pulling on a 220 hp/230 lbft FWD car like that, 3rd gear up. Lets face it it hammered that chipped RS!!!

Glad you took that Video. I would of expected the WRX to be a couple of car lengths ahead more or less straight off the line, so looks like he did launch gently. It's good to see that the WRX is a notch up after all the negative comments you get on here. He didn't beat you by a massive margin to be honest.

Also he would leave you for dead in the twisties .

Cheers.

First, can I just say: Kudos for you for having the ***** to admit you lost, not moaning about it and still posting the evidence. It's a very good vid and you got off to a great start which is where he should have had a big advantage; someone needs some lessons launching their Scooby methinks . A properly launched scooby will beat pretty much anything off the line. 0-30 in under 2 secs is possible...if you don't like your clutch

Second, don't sweat it, that's one quick Skoda you've got there and -contrary to what you might read on here from some- the WRX is a quick car. Anyone who says that a car that can do 0-60 in under 6 seconds and the 30-70 increment in the same time is talking bollox, frankly! Sure, it's not the quickest car anymore and it doesn't have the advantage over the hot hatch brigade that it once had, but its quick enough for most.

Great Vid.

But the car is a 1.8T Elegance?? Not a Vrs?

Im not saying a Vrs would fair any better, but please post the facts, also on Briskoda, your profile claims 214 BHP??

I used to own an 03 WRX with PPP, now drive a 03 Octavia Vrs. The Vrs is a nice car, but would take back the Scoob anyday....Dam House move!

I'm surprised at the result as I don't seem to find that my wife's standard vRS gets left behind by WRXs.

In the real world I don't believe you would see much difference, as you say.

How often do you get the chance to race over so much clear road without getting done by a Taliban or crashing into some coffin dodger in a Rover?

I really think that is a big difference and a lot of the reason that some of the "I kept with this" type threads tend to appear. In certain conditions, my (admittedly modded, but only to ~280bhp) bugeye has kept with things that I know are faster (Evo FQ-320, and a 993 Carrera 4 within the last two weeks, for example). There have also been a couple of occassions where I've been surprised at one or two slower cars that have either stayed with me or at least stayed close.

The thing is that on the road - unless you're prepared to risk license losing /dangerous type stuff - you'll almost never be driving flat out for more than a few seconds at a time in anything that's moderately quick like a vRS or standard WRX, let alone something that is genuinely quick. With only a few seconds of hard driving, you don't need to have got much of a jump on someone to keep with them / beat them etc.

that was quite a big difference having now watched itthat scoob has got quite a bit more power .

you screwed your change from 1st to 2nd though but the reall killer was he appears to have longer gears,,,it looked like when you went into third he went past you still in 2nd.

As said, well done for posting the vid, and as said no shame in that performance..

Video evidence at last that a newage WRX can cut it above 60..!

Out of interest, do you know how many miles he has on the scoob..?

Whoo Hoo, someone with a bit of common sense!! Like I've said time and time again, even significant on paper performance advantages (like a couple of secs on 60 or 100 or 30-70) can be negated by on-road factors and simple things like who got on the power first or was in the right gear etc... I know full well that a VRS could get a jump on a WRX in the same way that a WRX could get the jump on a 996 Porka.......but I'm not about to head over to the Porsche forum and tell em that, cause I'd look like a bit of a **** in the same way that people who post the "scoobies aren't quick" threads on here look like *****!

Any chance you can get an idea of your 0-100 (via speedo odviously, maybe 105-110mph) from timing yourself in the vid. If you can make out the speedo that is..?

I know this isn't very scientific (sp?) just an idea..
