Hummer doing the school run!
#32
There are a few of these "Bummer Hummers" going about Aberdeen.
I really just dont get it. None of the benefits of the original Hummer, none of the benefits of a normal road car, just a big attention-seeking waste of resources.

The worst thing is, most of the ******* park in front of MY house and usually end up blocking most of the road
Then, the following morning, get up early and drive back to where they live - five minutes before they are due to leave on the school run. Park across their driveway, and watch them bust a blood vessel because they can't drive their portable barns the 300 yards to Tarquin and Gemima's school. At 09:05, drive back home

Well for what its worth. I used to take my kids to school in a Previa. Mind you, I did have a 15 mile journey to school , then back again , then back in the afternoon to collect them then back home again ....oh and then if there was a committee meeting in the evening, back I'd go again to and fro.
If I could have walked with them, I would have done.
As for the large vehicle. Whilst we had it, we USED it. We were forever piling in the extra kids to take them here there and everywhere. Very rarely were we travelling "light". As soon as the eldest passed his test, we chopped in the Previa for two smaller vehicles.

So much in the press and local councils about 4x4s ... at the end of the day people have a right to drive whatever car they want. We pay stupid amounts of insurance, road tax and petrol duty so why the hell shouldn't we drive whatever car we want.
Yeh they are big, yeh they get in the way ... but it's better than everyone driving the same fecking car and the world being boring.
All I'll say is that when I have mini Gangstas with Mrs Gangsta the'll be encased within a 4x4 on a school run because I feel safer in one than I do in a regular saloon car.
I'm sure that scoob polutes twice as much as a 4x4 in any case so we should just be thankfull we all haven't been the focus of so much hatred.

It's all about rights with no thought to responsibilities!! No wonder there are so many delinquent kids around when they have parents like these.

'We' could so easily be hoisted by our own petard here.
Why do we all not drive around on small 4dr cars that do 60+ MPG and are fully recylcable(sp)?. Because we choose not to and drive what we like to drive, our choice. Whilst i do not want to drive around in a hummer or any other big 4wd i dont feel then need to stop others.
Scoob owners most will do 25-27 mpg if treated with kid gloves but can get 10-15 if horsed + not great emmissions either, oil changes every 9K plus eats tyres so why drive these fuel guzzling emmission spitting rally rep cars?
I think we should have some choice but also some common sense and respect for others would not go amiss when it comes to choice.

how can somebody who chooses to or wants to own a 4x4 such as a hummer or Cayenne or X5 immediately be labelled with 'profligate tosser?'
Seems a bit harsh matey ... people have the right to drive any car they want and so long as they do that within resonable boundaries of the law then what is the problem.
You can't just label someone because of what car they drive. That's a wonderful way to judge people!!!!

There is a junior school near to where I live and there was a a mass protest outside with all these people hurling abuse at people turning up driving 4x4s ... no-one should have to incur that sort of heckling when they with their kids.
To be honest I don't really see the point in all the protesting. Say a few thousand people did decide to sell their 4x4s as a result of the the protesting ... it would have no effect on pollution because the levels are insignificant in the first place.
Second ... if a person is a bad driver then they'll be a bad driver in any car regardless of size.
Third ... I think there is a lot of jealousy involved. These 4x4s cost a hell of a lot and a guarantee if somebody had unlimited funds they would encase their children in one - expecially with the amount of RTAs going up every month.
There are more important things to worry about than people wanting to drive big cars!
i.e. police forces making more money than public listed companies from camera revenues.
Random stabbings and muggings levels going up.
The failure of the judiciary system!

When you see the way that some (sorry, most) of these vehicles are (mis)handled in the urban environment by the idiots that took out the huge loan to buy them, you'll know what I mean.
My cousin lives in hoodies and rides his bike on the pavement. He is good kid and has never been in trouble EVER ... his peers and all people his age wear these clothes and ride bikes - you can't just label them all because it's what that age group as a whole represent.
Same with 4x4s ... there are the same amount of idiots that drive scoobs, evos, ferraris, white vans, modeos, focus's, audis, bmws and who can't handle them properly. What are you going to label these car drivers like??? I'm worried if that is how you judge a person, by what car they drive. If my sister brought home a new bloke and he drove a 4x4 I wouldn't assume he was anti-social. I'd get to know him first before I killed him!
My point is that it is wrong to label people based on what car they choose to drive. Just the same as it's wrong to label anyone based on the attitudude of their age group or beliefs in general.

I drive a landrover discovery
it is a V8
I don't see any difference in my social standing or impact on the environment from the Subaru I sold to buy it.
Indeed some could argue that 'speed kills' and as your typical 4x4 is significantly slower than a performance car, like say a Subaru, the impact I am likely to have on by fellow humans is much less significant....
Discuss (in a mature adult fashion, if that's possible)
PS my children walk to school

Hooded tops – Bloated 4 x 4s. Same thing. They both represent symbols that those who own them promote a certain kind of life style. There’s no difference in that respect.
So, if people don’t want to be considered to be foul mouthed, littering, thieving, vandelising, drug taking yobs they shouldn’t adopt the symbols of such culture and go around wearing hooded tops.
Likewise, if people don’t want to be perceived as footballers wives, shallow, selfish, rights over responsibilities, live on credit, soap watching morons they should drive appropriate vehicles for the environment they inhabit in a sensible and considerate manner.
Simple really.

I bought a 4X4 in the hope that when one of the local hoodies doing 90 up the high street in his WRX hits me I have a chance of surviving.
