WHATS THE FASTEST STANDARD IMPREZA MODEL
#31
turbo timer on my P1(standard) recorded a 0-60 time of 4.1secs! the factory spec figures are obtained from imprezas that have done like 5miles on a brand new tight engine. Once they have loosened they are far more rapid!
I would imagine that typically ur type 25 or spec C would be fastest (of the new age range)
classics.... type R/RA/P1.
by the way i read a review that quotes 'the P1... heraldly regarded as the greatest impreza ever'
come on...who disagrees???????

The Type-R is the lightest of all the Scoobs. The 0-60 time is even better than a 22B. It also has the closest ratio box. The new age are comparitive on power but are ALOT heavier. I've driven a Spec C. Fast, but the Type-R still has the edge.

I have to agree, that the 290 sti engine in a classic that only weighs 1280kg, does indeed make a serious track weapon. But, when we say 'the fastest', do we mean 0-60, a lap round silverstone??? Far to easy to look at the 0-60 times.
My sti 4 has a higher top speed than a type r, simply due to the gear ratio's ( 22mph/1000rpm vs 19mph/1000rpm).

The Spec C is the quickest none special edition (ie S203) car, it DOES outperform the type R, the quickest type R is known to be the v4, so how come because its heavier its quicker?
Lets see..... aerodynamically superior to the classic, more airflow onto the intercooler, close ratio gearbox, engine produces more power and torque..... the C is the quicker and even subaru show that (standing 1/4 mile times, v4 type R v Spec C)
V4 type R = 13.4@104mph
Spec C = 13.0@108mph
Subaru figures

Yeah but them figures are modest. i've seen faster times than that on standard ones.
By the way, whoever, said that a standard STi is faster than a Type-R STi is wrong. The close ratio box actually makes it FASTER! Although it does scream!!!! I have fitted 18" wheels to ellevate this problem.

We organised a day over here with Subaru Cyprus for charity. They brought all the Jap and Euro Spec Scoobs with them. We raced them down the Runway and timed them with official running gear and a calibrated Poilce Speed Gun. We also raced them against some RAF helicopters.
The Spec C is fast, but it is too heavy when compared to the RA and Type-R. They pissed all over it!!!! I was so dissapointed with the 22B. Thought they would be abit faster with the 2.2 engine. The classics are faster. Would loved to see how a Type25 would perform.

Its not about weight, this is where eveyone falls flat on their face
Its about aerodynamics and gearing, power and torque, the spec C has the best of the lot, hence why its acutally the quicker, considering you need 5 gears to get to the 108mph mark..... plus the in gear times (most have well over 300lbs of torque without mods) they slaughter most cars out there )
They do take a little running in though, anything under 5-6k miles on the clock (as per any scoob) and its not worth trying, as demonstrated by the increase in power mine made between 1.4 and 7k miles

However I hear the new Scoob has amazing aerodynamics for a saloon car!

Interesting quote from Scooby Magazine:
"Lets get this out of the way - the
S203 is probably not the fastest
production (or limited production) STi
in a straight line. That honour either
goes to the S202 or the 22b. While the
power levels are higher than either of
those monsters, it is also heavier. A
standard bodied STi was used for the
base instead of picking a lightweight
(and loud) Spec C. STi had reasons
for this, they had plans of a different
sort for the S203. They had decided
that it was time for a grown-up edition."
http://www.scoobymagazine.com/generalpics/s203.pdf
S202 - based on Spec C model - 1330kgs
S203 - based on STi model - 1445kgs

19mph/1000rpm allows for a theoretical top speed of (19*8.25) = 156.75mph.
Both the standard sti and sti type r, share the same engine. So yes, because of the shorter gearing, the type r would be quicker upto it's top speed of 157mph, but then it will run out of revs.
And as for the 18' wheels, if you have kept the rolling radius the same as the standard 16' setup, i.e. bigger wheel with a lower profile tyre, then your gear ratio's stay the same.
I get the impression that you believe that your car is the fastest in the world!
