the wanting to spend..... unless its a top model scooby is totally true mate! but the killer is insurance! so uk spec is my only option! it has potential though! I know if i get a standard one i will be dissapointed but, for the money id have to spend on mine for cams etc that could get me over 270 bhp in the scooby...

i dont really care either way, he was leaving me on the straights and booting it, the smoke out the back kinda gave that away. i was gaining on the corners and he moved over for me. it's on video on www.williamsclio.co.uk if you want to look. this wasn't at the ring, this was at Donny and it goes to show that a smaller less power car can still cut it on the move with a high power to weight. i don't car if the guy was a novice, this was also my first track day ever, so i'd hardly say i knew what I was doing, it was mainly the car... i wasn't really pushing to hard on the corners either as I dont really fancy stacking my car as I use it as my daily driver.

Had a little race with a Clio 182 today, you should have seen this clio go, I still managed to catch it up and over take him after a few miles which wasnt easy, but I was impressed at how fast it moved.

Yup An insurance dude would have to be a) really knowledgeable b) really arsed to dig the ecu out the passenger footwell, unscrew it and send it off to see if its been flashed...if you get what I mean A dawes can be removed in 5 minutes unless you are dead or maimed

Insurance companies can always find out if your ECU has been flashed if they want to. Speaking from an LCR point of view, it is relatively easy if you have the equipment to do a Hex dump of the ECU software and find out if it's been altered. If you don't declare it to them you are basically driving uninsured. Insurance companies will go to any length to not pay up.

No standard skyline has gone around in under 8 mins.

A Skyline driven by our good mate Dirk with increased boost may have done so, but it was not standard.

less than 300 bhp in a heavy car with 4wd does not do less than 8 mins laps!

you sure about that davyboy,

as i heard otherwise, the r34 anyway has 326bhp as most rr will prove thats stock as the 287bhp claimed output is not true

oh what about subarus claim that the new spec c does sub 8 mins lap, well it certainly does on litchfield imports

Mothers 172 looks ace IMO and i often have access to it when the olds are away. At the same time however, Dads Mondeo TDCi is usually available and believe it or not - that is my choice if i can't be arsed with the Scoob.
The Clio IMO has to be worked hard to make it go and i just don't feel safe in the twisties. Don't get me wrong though. I'm quite sure it could keep with a Scoob in the straights and the twisties - but certainly not in my hands. My Scoob feels much quicker (tek3, decat etc) and feels much safer/planted in the twisty stuff.
My plan - post Scoob was to have a 172/182 but havin put many miles on the old dear's, there is simply no way under the sun i would do it.
The question is however - is a Scoob a big enough jump from a 172? IMO - yes as long as a decat, tek3 and eibachs were in the budget

well i have gone the other way form u mate i p/x my classic import on monday for a 2002 172. thought there would have been a big difference in power but i was shocked i don't think there is much in it at all. I sold my scooby as it was killing my bank balance to keep the thing on the road. An the insurance is half the price as well.

Quick question is the import classic's quicker than a uk scooby an if so is it by much

It was stated as standard, but since they the driver (Dirk Shoysman) of the car has admited it was not running std boost and had some nice sticky rubber on too.

pretty sure gan san(best motoring) threw a stock r34 round the ring in 8min 9 seconds

but when he drives thats worth an extra 50bhp by anyones books

pretty sure the time for the r34 and nsx type r which I think broke 7 mins where at the start of the edition with the spec c in, with gan san driving again.
